POSITION DETAILS

Hunter College, the largest of the senior colleges in The City University of New York system with an enrollment of approximately 23,000 including more than 5,000 graduate students, is a comprehensive institution offering a wide range of baccalaureate and master's degree programs in more than thirty academic departments and professional schools, as well as participating in the Ph.D. programs of The City University of New York. The Assistant Vice President for Instructional Computing & Information Technology is the Chief Information Officer for the College and provides leadership for information technology resources and services in support of the College's academic mission and related administrative tasks. In particular, s/he is responsible for researching, recommending, and implementing emerging technologies and creating an environment fostering teaching and learning with technology.

This position plays a key role in the planning, development, implementation, and integration of its information technology policy, resources, and operations. The successful candidate will have responsibility over instructional computing, administrative computing, telecommunications, user support, network development, and programming. S/he oversees all central operations in these areas and ensures efficient utilization of available resources and high quality of all support services by maintaining an efficient organizational structure and by providing ongoing IT staff development and training. The CIO/AVP reports to the Vice President for Administration. In conjunction with the President, Vice Presidents, and Deans, s/he plans and sets the direction for all matters involving computer technology campus-wide, including voice, video, and data networks and is fiscally responsible and accountable for the central IT budget. The CIO/AVP establishes standards and manages the necessary infrastructure to facilitate the exchange of information and assure appropriate security, connectivity, and interoperability for all centralized IT operations including, but not limited to email, the Internet, and all centralized academic and administrative hardware, software, and telecommunication systems. The CIO/AVP also establishes and maintains standards for Local Area Networks (LAN) and the LAN backbone, and oversees and coordinates operations in support of distance learning.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate should have broad managerial experience, including a minimum of seven

years of executive level responsibility for supporting the technology-related requirements of complex academic, private sector, public sector or non-profit environments as well as responsibility for technical implementation, management and strategy and program leadership. An advanced degree, preferably in business administration, public administration, information technology or a related field preferred. The successful candidate is a strategist with strong management, operational and planning experience and a proven track record of accomplishments in complex environments, infrastructure development and systems implementation. The candidate must possess the ability to work effectively in a coordinating role across multiple constituencies; a strong, open and collaborative leadership style; a customer-service orientation with a focus on excellence; outstanding communication skills; and experience managing contracts with IT hardware, software and telecommunication vendors.
