Job Title: Clinical Professor (Medical Series) - Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Biomedical Sciences

Job ID: 21367

Location: CUNY School of Medicine

Full/Part Time: Full-Time

Regular/Temporary: Regular

The CUNY School of Medicine (CSOM) was founded upon the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education and is the only medical school in the City University of New York system. Located on The City College of New York campus in Harlem, the mission of the CSOM is to produce competent, broadly educated, highly skilled medical practitioners who provide quality health services to communities historically under-served by primary care practitioners. Our reputation for excellence has earned national acclaim for performance and a broad network of clinical sites for clerkships.

The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Biomedical Sciences (MCBS) was formed through the merger of several basic science departments and represents one of the four departments in the school (Community Health and Social Medicine, Medical Education, and Clinical Medicine). The department plays a critical role in our mission-driven BS/MD program and Physician Assistant program through the teaching of the basic science curriculum and by conducting extramurally funded research. The research agenda of the current members of the department is centered on neuroscience, microbiology and immunology, cardiovascular disease, and oncology.

MCBS seeks applications for a full time non-tenure faculty position at Clinical Professor rank to teach courses in basic science (e.g. chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, etc.) to medical students. This position represents excellent ground floor opportunities to contribute to the development and growth of a newly expanding mission based medical school and to shape the direction of academic initiatives in the department and the medical school with a long and rich history of recruiting underrepresented populations into medicine, increasing medical services in under-served areas, and increasing the availability of primary care physicians.

Individuals appointed as clinical professors – medical series are experienced practitioners or teachers in their professions or fields of expertise. The responsibilities of the position include teaching (including, in some cases, clinical instruction), and may include research. Clinical professors - medical series are full-time, non-tenure track positions.

Doctoral-level degree in a relevant discipline (biochemistry, molecular biology) or other doctoral-level degree combined with another advanced degree in a relevant discipline.

At least one-year teaching experience in a medical school.

Also, must have demonstrated satisfactory qualifies of personality and character, a record of achievements in his/her profession or field of expertise, and a willingness to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

CUNY offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs. We also provide mentoring and support for research, scholarship, and publication as part of our commitment to ongoing faculty professional development.
