FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The CUNY School of Medicine (CSOM) at The City College of New York (CCNY), is the only medical school in the City University of New York system. Our innovative curriculum allows students to complete both their undergraduate Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degrees in seven years. CSOM will graduate its first MED class in 2020. CSOM also has a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies (P.A.). Our mission is to provide access to medical education to talented youth from social, ethnic, and racial backgrounds historically underrepresented in medicine and to develop health professionals committed to practicing in under-served communities with a special emphasis on primary care. It has a reputation for excellence that has earned national acclaim for performance and a broad network of clinical sites for clerkships.
The Clinical Professor (Director Learning Resource Center) will provide the strategic oversight for the Learning Resource Center which provides academic support and peer tutoring services for students in our seven-year BS/MD program. The appointee will lead the activities of an existing Center staff, in conjunction with the administrative director, who provides day-to-day supervision and direction. The appointee will report to the Assistant Dean for Medical Education and Faculty Development.
The functions of the Clinical Professor will include the development a rigorous, empirical program to provide student academic support. Investigate and oversee the implementation of new approaches to student academic support that stem from and extend existing practices, and- embark on original research in the area of student academic support.
Individuals appointed as Clinical Professors – medical series are experienced practitioners or teachers in their professions or fields of expertise. The responsibilities of the position include teaching (including, in some cases, clinical instruction), and may include research. Clinical professors - medical series are full-time, non-tenure track positions.
Ph.D. degree in education, psychology, or counseling with at least five years of relevant experience and have a reputation and record of achievements in his/her profession of field of expertise; teaching experience at a university, medical center, and/or hospital at the undergraduate and/or graduate level; and proven administrative and leadership ability for use in the effective and successful collaborative effort with school faculty and staff; and experience working with diverse groups/students in higher education in an urban setting.
