FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Practice of Medicine (POM) is series of clinical skills courses in the seven-year BS/MD program at the

Sophie Davis Biomedical Education Program/CUNY School of Medicine. The school is searching for an

internist to work as POM Co-Course director and Director of Internal Medicine Education. POM courses

begin in the second year of the undergraduate program and continue until graduation. As part of service

learning, students participate in a longitudinal clinical experience where they work as professionals in a

clinical environment, contributing to their learning about primary care and the role it plays within the US

healthcare system. The school has an Internal Medicine clerkship in the M3 year and Internal Medicine

sub-internship in the M4 year

The Co-Course Director will collaborate with CUNY School of Medicine faculty to accomplish the following objectives:

  • Evaluate, and revise the curriculum, teaching, and assessment methods used for clinical skills teaching at CUNY School of Medicine in compliance with the Liaison Committee on Medical Education ("LCME") and CUNY School of Medicine guidelines.

-Oversee curriculum reform and implementation of the CUNY School of Medicine Longitudinal Clinical Experience/ Service-Learning experience.

-Provide annual orientation/faculty development of all LCE faculty.

-Work with Internal Medicine Clerkship/Sub Internship site directors to ensure that the clerkship meets LCME accreditation standards including comparable educational experiences, didactics, and assessment methods.

-Teach relevant large and small group didactic sessions within the clinical courses/Internal Medicine clerkship

-Collaborate with the Family Medicine Clerkship director to ensure didactic sessions in the Internal Medicine and Family Medicine clerkships coordinate and avoid unintended redundancies.

-Advise, mentor students who are considering a career in Internal Medicine.

-Develop and implement remediation plans for students who are not meeting expectations or performing poorly in clinical skills courses or the Internal Medicine clerkship.

  • Participation in other related CSCHOOL OF MEDICINE committees (ex. Admissions, Curriculum, SAPC, Ethics, etc.).

  • Participation in medical education research and/or other scholarly activities

*Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

* Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work in the office

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have an M.D. or D.O. degree

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and appropriate advanced degree, professional licensure, registration, certification, or such other qualifications as may be necessary for the satisfactory performance of his/her duties. Also, must have demonstrated satisfactory qualities of personality and character, a record of achievements in his/her profession or field of expertise, and a willingness to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as medical school course director/ clerkship director with medical education for at least 5 years is strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and experience with curriculum development is desired.

  • The successful candidate will have an ability to combine administrative, education, and teaching responsibilities.

  • The person in this position must also possess outstanding communication and leadership skills in working with faculty members at many clinical sites.

  • The person in this position must also be willing to participate in appropriate academic and scholarly activity to further the institution's contributions to medical education.

COMPENSATION

Salary range: $170,000 - $185,000
