Under supervision, performs miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the operation of a College or other unit where such work is required on a part-time basis or for a period of limited duration.
There is one Assignment Level for this position. All personnel perform related work. This specification describes typical assignments; related duties may be assigned as
Maximum tenure for any employee in this hourly position is 1040 hours per year.
Performs routine clerical work; may answer and attend to telephone calls; maintain records,
operate office machines (such as copier), sort and distribute mail, issue keys and identity cards,
act as messenger, and perform related tasks as required.
Types letters, memoranda, charts, and similar materials.
Acts as cashier.
Assists in statistical or research activities. May collect and compile data, code data for computer entry, perform data entry, and run computer reports.
Performs clerical library work, such as sorting and shelving books, performing data entry into library systems, or binding books and periodicals.
Assists in instructional programs, including tutoring and assisting students in areas such as reading and mathematics. May assist in speech and hearing therapy, provide musical accompaniment, and/or distribute and collect physical education equipment.
Enters and maintains departmental records such as inventory control records, rosters, directories, and schedules.
May operate computers, computer software, and other electronic equipment in performing assigned tasks.
CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
CUNY TV, the television station of The City University of New York, operates Broadcast Channel 25.3 in the region and cable channel 75 throughout the five boroughs. The stations are on-the-air 24 X 7 X 365 with programs that are rarely found in traditional television reporting.
CUNY-TV seeks a part-time receptionist who will be responsible for providing administrative support to the department. The College Assistant will be performing various tasks that contribute to the daily operations of the station including welcoming, greeting, and directing visitors appropriately, notifying company personnel of visitor arrivals, clerical duties and operating the Cisco IP phone system, while delivering quality customer service for information and assistance to both internal and external constituencies.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Maintains a safe and clean reception area by following procedures; monitors guest logbook; issues visitor badges.
Provides information to viewers and guests in a professional manner.
Maintains employee and department directories.
Maintains continuity among departments by documenting and communicating actions.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Orders and maintains general office supplies.
Coordinates the pick-up and delivery of express mail services and USPS mail, and maintains a log book.
Sorts mail, makes copies and files documents.
Provides general clerical support to the Business Office & COO.
Screens and directs phone calls.
Assists with timekeeping.
Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Previous customer service or receptionist experience.
Excellent communication skills provided in person and/or on the telephone.
Customer focus with professionalism in handling client inquires/requests.
Organization skills with ability to handle pressure and multiple tasks.
Familiarity with the Cisco IP phone system.
Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
Commensurate with experience.
