  • Under supervision, performs miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the operation of a College or other unit where such work is required on a part-time basis or for a period of limited duration.

  • Maximum tenure for any employee in this hourly position is 1040 hours per year.

  • Performs routine clerical work; may answer and attend to telephone calls; maintain records,

operate office machines (such as copier), sort and distribute mail, issue keys and identity cards,

act as messenger, and perform related tasks as required.

  • Types letters, memoranda, charts, and similar materials.

  • Acts as cashier.

  • Assists in statistical or research activities. May collect and compile data, code data for computer entry, perform data entry, and run computer reports.

  • Performs clerical library work, such as sorting and shelving books, performing data entry into library systems, or binding books and periodicals.

  • Assists in instructional programs, including tutoring and assisting students in areas such as reading and mathematics. May assist in speech and hearing therapy, provide musical accompaniment, and/or distribute and collect physical education equipment.

  • Enters and maintains departmental records such as inventory control records, rosters, directories, and schedules.

  • May operate computers, computer software, and other electronic equipment in performing assigned tasks.


College Assistant




Receiving is responsible for the secure receipt, inspection and routing of business materials ordered by the college and members of the college community. The department is also the initial recipient and sorter of most non-USPS parcels delivered to Baruch College. We process any parcel deemed to be college property or of a sensitive nature and forward the balance to the Mailroom for distribution.

Reporting to the Receiving’s Stock Worker Supervisor, the college assistant will work with the Receiving and Mailroom staff to complete the following tasks:

  • Receive parcels or pallets delivered to the college.

  • Refuse the delivery of damaged parcels and notify supervisor.

  • Enter inbound package details into SendSuite system for tracking and distribution.

  • Print and affix label containing the requester’s/addressee’s name and departmental box number.

  • Inspect order deliveries and match with packing slip; notify supervisor of any discrepancies.

  • Sort parcels onto designated areas for distribution.

  • Deliver parcels or pallets to the requester/addressee throughout the college.

  • Respond to inquiries from faculty and staff via phone, email or in person.

  • Operate pallet trucks, platform trucks, hand trucks, and u-boats.

  • Assist with Mailroom operations when necessary.

  • Assist with filing and photocopying as needed.

  • Provide excellent customer service.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.


  • Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.


$16.00/hr - $18.00/hr; pay rate commensurate with experience
