The Academic Program Specialist will report to the Director of the College Discovery (CD) Program. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the person will:

  • Recommend and implement recruitment activities for the CD program.

  • Partner in developing and putting into action retention and persistence outreach activities for College Discovery students.

  • Supervise and coordinate program tutors and other student support services.

  • Develop and design training/professional development for academic support staff.

  • Assist the Director in forming and implementing co-curricular student activities that meet the broad interests and needs of the College Discovery students, such as the CD Student Club and CD Recognition Ceremony, that are based on student development theory, diversity and community service.

  • Collaborate with the Office of Student Affairs, Office of Academic Affairs and other key offices to ensure that the services provided to these students are coordinated.

  • Work with Institutional Research to implement an assessment strategy that will use learning outcomes and best practices to assess participation in the CD program.

  • Work with the CD team to develop and maintain a communication strategy using print and technology resources including the web presence and social media usage.

  • Oversee various administrative functions in absence of the Director.

  • Provide assistance with major college-wide events such as commencement, orientation, registration and honors convocation.

  • Participate in campus-wide retention and persistence outreach and activities.

  • Ability to work in-person and remote environments.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.

  • Knowledge of best practices in student success program implementation using research, assessment, and data-informed decision making.

  • Successful implementation of programs for a diverse student population, and evidence of successful college-wide collaborations.

  • Must possess strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with attention to detail, and proven leadership; teaching experience is a benefit.

  • Ability to work evening hours and weekends as necessary.

  • Be a dynamic individual can work independently and under general supervision to provide courteous and accurate customer service to all students, visitors and campus community.

  • Have proficiency in various software programs, social media, and Microsoft Excel.

  • Additional education in student personnel administration, higher education or a related field desirable.

Participates in the daily coordination of academic and administrative activities of a College's specialized academic program under management direction.

  • Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor/student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.

  • Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings

  • Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management

  • Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services

  • Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures

  • Oversees office recordkeeping; manages updates of program web and print materials

  • May supervise office operations and/or department budget

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
