POSITION OVERVIEW

The College External Relations Coordinator will provide administrative, research, writing and other types of professional support to the College President and other senior College staff, under the direction of the Executive Director of External Affairs.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting research about relevant issues, communities of practice, advocacy groups, thought leaders and potential partners for relationship building.

  • Drafting well-researched correspondence, fact sheets, briefings, legislative summaries, talking points, and other communications and contributing to reports, presentations and publications.

  • Assisting with social media presence of office, including content development and execution, audience/follower generation, and record keeping.

  • Assist with the development of web content related to public policy, public safety, events and civic engagement and voting.

  • Tracking current events relating to public safety and higher education,legislative and budgetary issues, hearings and announcements.

  • Assisting in the development and filing of grant and funding proposals to public entities, assuring completion of grant funding requirements and required documentation.

  • Assisting with background and execution of advocacy/lobbying activities and important engagement events to support the College’s priorities and interests, including but not limited to visits to campus by dignitaries, virtual programs, and conferences

  • Aiding in strategic outreach with College departments and external stakeholders and designing and maintaining outreach databases and files.

  • Collaborating with College departments and research centers and public, professional, community-based and advocacy organizations on select initiatives.

  • Performing routine office support tasks as required by the senior staff, which can include completing expense reports, filing time sheets, drafting and editing documents and reports, copying and scanning documents, maintaining subject files, submitting purchase requisitions, ordering merchandise and services, and scheduling events and meetings.

Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work in the office, and this position is based in New York, NY.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment. All CUNY employees must reside within a commutable distance to their campus.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • One (1) year of relevant professional experience.

  • Strong written, verbal and social media communication skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organization.

-Proficient writer

  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

  • Manages basic office functions such as communications, meeting schedules, work plans, staff assignments, and distributing information.

  • Collects data for, prepares, and distributes reports and presentations using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

  • Updates office databases, lists, and files to ensure completeness and accuracy; maintains current information on department web site(s); maintains department archives and collections.

  • Conducts internet and/or database research and performs basic systems queries to locate information related to department activities.

  • Maintains department fiscal plans and budgets; assists in budget administration and invoice processing.

  • Provides basic information, instructions, and materials as requested by students, faculty, and others who contact the department.

  • May supervise office staff and student workers.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
