GENERAL DUTIES

Performs highly-skilled laboratory functions and other technical duties in support of coursework.

  • Sets up, maintains, and organizes student laboratories

  • Assists students with setting up experiments and other learning exercises, and with the use of equipment and materials

  • Maintains appropriate safety and hygiene standards

  • Maintains required documentation related to laboratory activities

  • Manages equipment and materials inventories.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Civil Engineering Department of the Grove School of Engineering at The City College of

New York is seeking a College Laboratory Technician.

Reporting to the Chairperson of Civil Engineering, the Technician will be responsible for

the supporting the Fluid and Hydraulic laboratories, as well as the Department’s machine shop.

In addition to the General Duties, the College Laboratory Technician will perform the following:

  • Effective operation of the facilities, setting up and assisting with the process of experimental activities associated with both undergraduate and graduate level courses

  • Participation in ongoing research projects, and assist/mentor students in independent studies and research in these facilities

  • Support and troubleshoot in teaching labs and classrooms

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering field;

  • Proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Office suite, Adobe, Blackboard,

Excel, Cornerstone Practice Management Software;

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team

and cooperate with others for the good of the institution; and

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload and monitor

performance and meet deadlines.
