CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The Department of Civil Engineering in the Grove School of Engineering at The City College of New York is conducting a search for a Senior College Laboratory Technician or College Laboratory Technician. The position will report to the Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering, and will be solely responsible for the department’s IT needs, and our computational laboratory resources (virtual and in person) and their smooth and efficient operation to support instructional and research activities.
College Lab Technician:
Serves as the IT expert in the department and performs highly-skilled computing functions and related technical duties in support of coursework and research.
Determines computer, networking, and related equipment requirements; prepares purchase specifications and coordinates acquisition of equipment.
Maintains, fabricates, modifies, and repairs computer laboratory equipment.
Creates student accounts and assists students and faculty with computer resources.
Sets up, maintains, and organizes student and research computational laboratories.
Maintains appropriate safety and hygiene standards.
Maintains required documentation related to computer laboratory activities.
Maintains computer hardware, software, and cabling inventories.
Senior College Lab Technician
Serves as the IT expert in the department and performs highly-skilled computing functions and related technical duties in support of coursework and research.

Maintains, fabricates, modifies, and repairs computer laboratory equipment.

Sets up, maintains, and organizes student and research computational laboratories.
Maintains appropriate safety and hygiene standards.
Maintains required documentation related to computer laboratory activities.
Maintains computer hardware, software, and cabling inventories.
Performs supervisory functions in laboratories in support of coursework.
Represents department in college-wide or school-wide initiatives pertaining to computational facilities.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications for College Laboratory Technician
High School Diploma with a minimum of four years related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: An Associate degree may be substituted for two years’ experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years’ experience.
Minimum Qualifications for Senior College Lab Technician
High School Diploma with a minimum of eight years related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: An Associate degree may be substituted for two years’ experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years’ experience. This position also requires the ability to direct train, and supervise others.

COMPENSATION
College Laboratory Technician: $47,509- $74,430
Senior College Laboratory Technician: $55,787- $81,246
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.
If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.
Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
