CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The Department of Art at the City College of New York invites applications for the position of College Laboratory Technician (CLT) in the Electronic Design and Multimedia (EDM) program. The EDM CLT works with the EDM Program Director and/or the Chair of the Art Department and shares active collaboration with all Art Department CLTs, college assistants, and lab monitors.
Working within a curriculum that merges design and art practice with technology, the EDM CLT manages networks, equipment, and materials installed in the EDM labs, including overseeing the labs and the management of digital printing services for design courses and paid service bureau printing. The EDM CLT will assist other areas of the Art Department and perform additional technical and related tasks as needed.
The EDM CLT will have a schedule that includes weekday afternoons and evenings, with one Saturday per semester for gallery exhibition installation. High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.
Preferred qualifications include:
Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in an arts-related computer lab and digital printing/output center, or a certificate from an information technology program and prior experience as a computer lab technician is preferred.
Prior experience with multi-workstation macOS environments, ethernet network, and file servers with ability to diagnose and repair related hardware and software problems is a plus.
The position requires strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
Familiarity with various Adobe Creative Suite software, Excel, FileMaker, Dropbox, and Google Drive is preferred; experience in JamfPro Mac-management is a plus.
Experience in technical aspects of printing/digital output is desired, with secondary competencies in web, photography, video and/or audio are a plus.
Experience with grant writing, art exhibition installation, and a background or degree in art or design is a plus.
