POSITION DETAILS

The Communications and College Relations Specialist will enter the Division at a time of bold strategic redeployment of student support efforts. The Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs is innovative and team-oriented division providing integrated, student-centered educational activities that empower students to lead engaged socially responsible lives. Operating in a commuter, urban environment, John Jay students are affected by many external factors. This drives us to strengthen communication and support while working as efficiently as possible, following best practices in the student fields of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.

Reporting directly to the Director of Special Projects for the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, the Communications Specialist will support and implement marketing activities that will advance division initiatives. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the selected candidate will:

  • Design and create marketing materials including but not limited to ads, flyers, posters, digital signage, banners, Divisional newsletters, blogs, email, and web graphics and social media posts.

  • Implement a division-wide strategic communication plan that will coordinate divisional branding and visual identity.

  • Collaborate with the college’s student organizations to increase their social media presence by educating them on communication and branding strategies across platforms.

  • As a member of the Student Affairs Technology Committee, work with all Enrollment Management and Student Affairs units to streamline the Division's social media communication plan and sit on other communications or social media committees as needed.

  • Conduct focus groups and market research to advance division initiatives.

  • Liaise and work closely with Enrollment Management, Marketing & Development, and other areas collaboratively to ensure proper communication with admitted students.

  • Monitor and build online conversations and communities that support the social media strategy and other marketing efforts.

  • Provide social media training and support for departments within the Division and as needed to external partners.

  • Support marketing activities for campus-wide initiatives including but not limited to special and annual signature events.

  • Stay current on new technologies, best practices, and trends in social media within higher education and Student Affairs.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment. All CUNY employees must reside within a commutable distance to their campus.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • May include some weekend and evening assignments.

  • Plans and implements communications campaigns, working with publications staff

  • Plans public activities and contributes to marketing of College activities and programs to external groups

  • With College publications and editorial personnel, plans, writes, and produces publicity materials and other external communications

  • May maintain relationships with media representatives

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
