Reporting to the Editorial Director, the Communications Writer/Editor will work closely with students, faculty, and staff from across the college in such areas as Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management and Student Affairs (EMSA), Financial Aid, and other offices. The Communications Writer/Editor’s responsibilities, in addition to the duties within CUNY Title Overview, include but are not limited to:

  • Write, edit, proofread, and fact check copy needed across the College’s different communication platforms, including, but not limited to: digital, print, social media, texts, and letters.

  • Ensure the quality, accuracy, and accessibility of copy representing the College, while also maintaining the College’s editorial style guidelines.

  • Produce weekly e-newsletters and other electronic communications for key audiences.

  • Support student retention, development, recruitment, and success with compelling marketing copy and careful copy-editing services as needed.

  • Support social media efforts with content as needed.

  • Meet all copy and project deadlines in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work in the office, and this position is based in New York, NY.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.


Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.


  • Excellent research, writing, and copy-editing skills are essential.

  • Flexible, adaptive writing skills for various print and digital media platforms are also necessary.

  • Must have effective communication and interpersonal skills. Must have ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet all deadlines.

  • Care deeply about the mission of the College, including: social mobility, justice, equity, integrity, respect, learning and scholarship.

  • Open to receiving constructive feedback, implementing suggestions, and retaining the suggestions afterwards.

  • Must be flexible and be available to cover after-work-hours events and programs.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, AP Style, web tools and apps, etc. is essential.

  • Spanish language proficiency a plus but not required.


Writes and prepares written material on College issues and event and provides professional support to College communications programs.

  • Researches and writes items in a variety of formats for publication in print, web sites, and presentations

  • Participates in planning communications projects and contributes to decisions on content and style

  • May assume editorial responsibility for communications projects; reviews and edits the work of others

  • May coordinate production of written materials

  • Adheres to journalistic standards for fact-finding, research, verification, and style

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
