GENERAL DUTIES

IT Senior Associates perform highly complex professional work in technology. They perform development/programming, communications, technical support, and similar functions in their areas of expertise. Work may include diagnosing, evaluating, overseeing and resolving problems in highly complex projects.

IT Senior Associates have wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, and may serve in lead roles on complex programs or projects and/or serve as a direct supervisor of a unit or group. They demonstrate mastery of technology-related discipline(s) and decision-making ability in area(s) of expertise. They serve as a resource and contribute to policies and technical standards.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Office of Computing and Information Services (CIS) at the City University of New York (CUNY) support the IT and telecommunications needs of CUNY's 25 colleges. CIS supports enterprise IT and applications; develops new technologies that advance University's core mission; builds, upgrades and maintains the University's network; operates the University's Data Center and help desk; develops disaster recovery and business continuity plans; and leads the CUNYfirst Enterprise Resource Planning Project (ERP), which integrates 25 university systems, covering student administration, financial management, and human resources.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Enterprise Application Service Delivery, the Degree Works Administrator will serve as a lead member of the application support team for CUNY's enterprise implementation of Ellucian Degree Works and related services.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manages and supports CUNY's academic advising, transfer articulation, and degree audit solution.

  • Plans and implements application upgrades, provides support to campus and Central Office users.

  • Coordinates system design and strategic integration with current and future applications such as PeopleSoft, FACTS, Schedule Builder, Course Dog, and any other new enterprise resources.

  • Serves as application expert and technical resource to campus personnel and internal technical teams.

  • Liaises with campus Service Desks, internal technical teams, and support personnel from vendors to document, investigate and resolve application issues.

  • Develops and maintains internal and external application documentation such as configurations and customizations.

  • Continuously develops and implements creative solutions to effectively automate application workflows, routine processes, and technical and procedural changes.

  • Creates monitoring practices to measure application health and performance.

  • Prepares, executes, and records test plan results to ensure that applications functionalities are not compromised by introducing upgraded or new components.

  • Develops approaches and solutions regarding training and training materials, support, communication

  • Closely manages all changes to applications and the infrastructure in accordance with CIS's change management procedures.

  • Analyzes and monitors the interfaces between applications and other source and target systems.

  • Prepares and assists in the analysis of application data for inclusion in reports.

  • Represents CIS on University councils and committees related to the Administrative Applications Support team's applications.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job duties require schedule flexibility and willingness to work evenings or weekends as required for systems-related tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

  2. An equivalent of ten years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: ten years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus eight years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus six years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position

  3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency

  4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.

This title has three levels. In addition to the minimum qualifications above, To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Experience with Ellucian Degree Works within a college/university environment.

  • Expertise in data analysis with demonstrated high aptitude for complex problem analysis and resolution.

  • Strong understanding of Application Lifecycle Management concepts, practices, and procedures.

  • Knowledge and understanding of load balancing and high availability concepts a plus.

  • Proficiency with SQL and basic knowledge of scripting languages such as Bash, C++, C#, Perl, PHP, and Python.

  • Extensive knowledge of Oracle and other WEB based products specifically for database and application software/system components.

  • Familiarity with UNIX/Linux and Microsoft Windows Server.

  • Strong understanding of multi-tier architecture and cross-platform integrations.

  • Understanding of Desktop and Application Virtualization technology.

  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Crystal Reports, MS SQL, Oracle SQL Developer, and FTP client software.

  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with administrators and constituents at all CUNY colleges and the Central Office.

  • Proactive and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and organizational skills to establish plans, manage a varied workload with multiple priorities, follow up and complete work by prescribed deadlines, and familiarity with Project Management methodologies.

  • Ability to work productively as an individual contributor and collaboratively as a team member in a fast-paced, time-sensitive, customer-responsive, and team-oriented environment.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Level 1: $91,298

Level 2: $99,599

Level 3: $109,560

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after July 1, 2019

City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after July 1, 2019 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.

After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period. If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.

Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period.

An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
