FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The CUNY School of Medicine (CSOM) at The City College of New York (CCNY), is the only medical school in the City University of New York system. Our innovative curriculum allows students to complete both their undergraduate Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees in seven years. CSOM will graduate its first MD class in 2020. CSOM also has a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies (PA). Our PA Program is a 28-month graduate program leading to a M.S. degree and certification as a Physician Assistant pending successful completion of the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination. We are one of the first degree-granting physician assistant programs in the country. Our mission is to provide access to medical education to talented youth from social, ethnic and racial backgrounds historically under-represented in medicine and to develop health professionals committed to practicing in under-served communities with a special emphasis on primary care. With our reputation for excellence we have earned national acclaim for performance and a broad network of clinical sites for clerkships.

Medical Distinguished Lecturers perform teaching in areas of expertise and related clinical and faculty duties. Are experienced practitioners or teachers who hold a full-time, non-tenure track position with a maximum appointment period of seven years, subject to annual reappointment. Distinguished Lecturers share responsibility for committee, program, and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

The Physician Assistant Program at the CUNY School of Medicine is searching for a Didactic Coordinator, to serve in the title of Medical Distinguished Lecturer.

In addition to these duties, additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop instruments to monitor overall efficacy of didactic courses, including 1) testing instruments reflecting course objectives; 2) validation and standardization of testing materials; and 3) curriculum adherence to national and state accreditation requirements.

  • Monitor individual student progress during the didactic year.

  • Teach in didactic curriculum.

  • Develop evaluation instruments to identify students with performance deficiencies.

  • Develop plans for student remediation and coordinates reexamination as warranted.

  • Identify the need for extra course work or tutoring.

  • Act as a liaison to teaching faculty for college resources, textbooks, teaching materials and course scheduling.

  • Identify need for and help acquire adjunct instructors.

  • Participate in all program committees.

  • Participate in CSOM committees as appropriate.

  • Serve as a faculty advisor for students.

  • Participate in other program responsibilities such as curriculum development and student evaluation.

  • Participate in the duties necessary for program maintenance of accreditation.

  • Perform related duties as determined by the program director.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and appropriate advanced degree, professional licensure, registration, certification or such other qualifications as may be necessary for the satisfactory performance of his/her duties. Also required are a record of achievement in his/her profession or field of expertise and the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Master's or Doctoral degree required. Current state license, National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification, and five or more years of clinical experience preferred. Knowledge of and commitment to the physician assistant profession and mission of the program required, as well as adherence to procedures and policies of City College and CUNY.

Also required are a record of achievement in his/her profession or field of expertise and the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
