CUNY Director of Development in New York, New York


The Director of Development reports to the VP of Development and works with the VP of Development to plan and implement the development program for the BMCC Foundation annually, including establishing a calendar of activities that engages our constituents at various levels, with a level of quality and presentation that are a credit to the BMCC Foundation, to achieve and grow our institutional goals.

We seek a highly experienced, enthusiastic, flexible fundraising generalist and manager to oversee the BMCC Foundation's annual fundraising gala, all development events, development operations, including the website, and manage selected staff to grow fundraising programs.

Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the planning, execution and revenue outcome of the BMCC Foundation's Annual $1 million + Scholarship Gala, including working with the Gala Committee, Honorees, donors, vendors and partners on campus.

  • Oversee all development department events - including cultivation, stewardship and fundraising events - in collaboration with other development staff members who are the direct creators of the events to assure maximum attendance and positive results. Goals will be determined for each event.

  • Assist the VP with, and handle personally where appropriate, the preparation for quarterly Board and Committee meetings, including organizing and drafting presentation materials, scheduling presenters, and compiling and maintaining required documents and minutes.

  • Oversee, support, advise and collaborate with the Manager of Alumni Relations and Annual Fund to facilitate efforts to help grow the BMCC Foundation's Annual Fund program.

  • Oversee development operations to assure database integrity, donor stewardship programs, including the donor acknowledgement process and other donor communication programs including via e-mail and text, and through social media, and accurate list preparation.

  • Collaborate, where needed and appropriate, with the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations and the Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving, and work with the VP to establish and implement metrics in these areas.

  • Directly manage selected staff, and handle administrative needs for the department.

  • Interface directly with selected Board members and donors, and take on responsibility for achieving a personal fundraising goal, to be determined.


Bachelor's Degree and eight years' related experience required.

  • Master's Degree preferred.

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills required.

  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Solid relationship-building and team-building skills.

  • Excellent fundraising judgement with ability to recognize funding opportunities.

  • Ability to multi-task.

  • Knowledge of Raisers Edge a plus.


Directs College's fundraising strategy and administration of fund-raising programs.

  • Designs, implements and monitors comprehensive resource development program

  • Responsible for meeting specific goals and targets

  • Develops funding strategies; assesses outcome of strategic plan

  • Oversees a portfolio of annual and major gift prospects to establish and sustain ongoing relations

  • Maintains relationships with donors and sponsoring organizations to cultivate and maintain funding

  • Ensures reporting requirements are completed in timely and accurate manner

  • Manages professional and clerical staff

  • Performs related duties as assigned
