POSITION DETAILS

The Stella and Charles Guttman Community College is the City University of New York’s newest community college in 40 years. As an innovative institution, Guttman Community College requires flexibility and a broad range of skills and competencies from candidates in every position. Located in midtown Manhattan, Guttman was established with the goal of significantly improving student learning, retention and graduation, by rethinking community college education and practice. Guttman Community College is a federally-designated Hispanic Serving Institution with a culturally diverse student body drawn from across New York City.

Most of our students enroll directly out of high school. The College is committed to using a range of innovative approaches in order to achieve its goals and to improve student persistence, retention, completion, and transfer. The centerpiece of Guttman’s educational model is an integrated first-year core curriculum, where students examine current world issues and use New York City as a living text and laboratory. Thus, connecting information and concepts across multiple disciplines, contexts, and perspectives. This immersive approach equips Guttman scholars with the foundation of knowledge and skills essential to their intellectual, social, civic, and professional endeavors in and beyond the classroom.

Guttman currently offers six majors/pathways: business administration, information technology, human services, liberal arts and sciences, science, and urban studies, and will offer additional programs in the future. The College admitted its first cohort of 300 students in August 2012 and has established a goal of 5,000 students, in the coming years. Reporting to the President, Guttman Community College is seeking a Director of Institutional Advancement & Donor Relations who will serve as a member of the President’s leadership team and work with the leadership of the College to build support for the college and for the Guttman Community College Foundation. The Director will partner with the President and leadership to develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive fundraising plan that includes the launch of a 10 th anniversary campaign. The Director is responsible for leading a collaborative team of communications and marketing professionals to ensure a streamlined and integrated communications program that will help cultivate meaningful relationships with keys audiences and build the College’s impact, vision and value. They will act as the liaison to the Guttman Community College Foundation and manage and oversee Guttman Community College’s foundation funded programs.

The Director’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Partner with the leaders to identify and cultivate donor relationships. Design and direct long and short term strategic planning for all program and administrative areas of fundraising

  • Oversee the operations of fundraising functions including major gifts, annual fund, alumni relations, campaigns, corporate and foundation support and planned giving

  • Lead fundraising reporting and tracking while maintaining accurate data and complete records of fundraising efforts; develop and coordinate the dissemination of the annual College Foundation report

  • Oversee the ongoing stewardship of donors and prospects including visits to the College, corporate visits, and communications and follow up

  • Develop, customize, and write case statements/grant proposals for donor prospects; direct the tracking of proposals and communications for the Guttman foundation, corporate and individual fundraising

  • Create, manage and track campaigns, prospect research and gift acknowledgement process; research, secure and manage funds from a variety of sources and manage appropriate reporting to donors

  • Coordinate fundraising special events and activities and oversee student scholarship initiatives

  • Oversee the implementation of an integrated strategic communications and marketing plan in collaboration with the Communications and College Relations Manager; Promote the institutions brand and reputation; broaden awareness and visibility of its programs and offerings; ultimately driving enrollment and retention of students

  • Oversee Guttman Community College’s development of communications for donors, prospects and the community and ensure that Guttman Community College is presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders that will enhance the base of public and private support.

  • Work with the College leadership as well as the communications and marketing team to recognize internal and external communication challenges and opportunities; define and execute appropriate strategies to frame the broad marketing campaign for the college as it celebrates its 10th year anniversary.

  • Perform other related duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and eight years’ related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a related field; demonstrated ability to manage teams effectively

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; customer focused; ability to work with internal and external clients to advance college mission

  • Experience leading a communications or marketing program and successful record of overseeing dynamic website development, social media campaigns, graphic design, video creation, multimedia publications, crisis management and high-visibility media placements.

  • Ability to creatively manage a budget in an environment of limited funding and resources; and assessing the impact of different strategies and programs.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and student success, or to working with a broadly diverse multicultural community.

  • Experience in public sector and documented history of raising philanthropic funds

  • Must be organized, detail oriented, deadline driven and demonstrate follow through on cultivation leads and gifts

  • Excellent writing and communication skills, both in terms of writing compelling case statements as well as with grammar, punctuation and spelling skills

  • Must possess knowledge of Microsoft Suite
