POSITION DETAILS
The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Labor Studies and Urban Studies that are designed to meet the needs of working adults as well as traditional-age college students who seek to learn more about the challenges confronting poor and working-class populations in the workplace and in the community. It also collaborates with other units of CUNY to offer a range of college-credit programs designed to give workers the academic and technical skills they need for professional advancement. Its faculty includes distinguished scholars in the social sciences as well as expert practitioners in government, labor, and public service.
SLU seeks a Director of Institutional Development and External Affairs who will work with existing and new partners to support and advance the educational, research, and public service mission of the School. The Director will be responsible for increasing the institutional capacity of the School by strengthening existing relationships and building new ones. S/he will work with unions, community organizations, philanthropic organizations, government agencies, legislative bodies, non-profits, and private donors to raise external funds and produce contractual agreements that will increase enrollments and generate revenues. S/he will work collaboratively with the senior leadership of the School and members of SLU’s Advisory Board to identify external funding sources to advance the School’s strategic plan. The Director will report to the Dean of the School or his designee.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Designing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive plan and strategy for aligning external funding with the School’s vision, mission, and goals.
Identifying philanthropic funding opportunities, including foundation grants, labor union support, and corporate gifts.
Identifying and soliciting government grant opportunities.
Identifying private donors and developing and executing cultivation plans and solicitation strategies.
Developing, monitoring, and evaluating fund-raising appeals and providing regular progress reports to key stakeholders.
Coordinating the School’s external affairs activities.
Expanding upon existing relationships and building new ones with labor unions and employer organizations that can produce contractual agreements and/or revenue for the School.
Developing and implementing strategic community relations policies and programs, and cultivating strong working relationships with community organizations.
Develop strategic partnerships with governmental agencies: identify and cultivate relationships and seek collaborations to meet common objectives.
Coordinating legislative initiatives: identifying public sources and developing new publicly funded initiatives.
Building and leveraging internal and external relationships to enhance the School’s profile within the local, national and international communities.
Note:Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and on-site in the office.Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and eight years' related experience required.

Demonstrated capacity to interact effectively with donors and institutional leaders, with a minimum of five years' experience in proven successful fund-raising activities
Excellent organizational, financial, and communication skills

Academic experience
Well versed, in-depth knowledge, and experience with social justice organizations and funders

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Starting salary from $115,333 - $158,100; commensurate with education and experience.

City of New York employees, and employees of Participating Employers, hired on or after October 1, 2022, and their eligible dependents, will only be eligible to enroll in the Emblem Health HIP HMO Preferred Plan, and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment. After
365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365 day period. If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting an Opt-Out Request Form to Emblem Health. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by Emblem Health before the exemption is granted.
