FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Performs teaching duties in area(s) of expertise. Distinguished Lecturers are experienced practitioners or teachers who hold full-time, non-tenure track position with a maximum appointment period of seven years, subject to annual reappointment.

The MFA Program in Creative Writing invites applicants for a Distinguished Lecturer position to serve as director of this renowned program. We seek a fiction writer of national/international stature, someone with an outstanding publishing record and major recognition by the literary community. Leadership experience in a writing MFA would be an asset. You will both direct our three genre MFA program—fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry—and teach in the graduate program. Teaching duties include fiction workshops/craft courses, supervising fiction graduate theses, and conducting admissions. The director works in close cooperation with creative nonfiction and poetry faculty in hiring new faculty, overseeing the Distinguished Writers Series, and providing leadership in creating a supportive and vital atmosphere for students and faculty alike. The director also serves as a liaison between the English Department and the MFA program, as well as working closely with the President’s Office and the Dean’s Office in hiring and retaining new and current faculty, fundraising, and in articulating long-range program goals both inside Hunter College and to the wider community beyond Hunter.

QUALIFICATIONS

MFA or equivalent in publication record required. Also required is the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

VACCINE REQUIREMENT

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

COMPENSATION

Salary commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.($50,512 - $139,076)
