The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) was established by CUNY’s Board of Trustees as the University’s seventh honors and professional school in June 2017, and opened its doors in August 2018. The mission of the School is to: 1) offer undergraduate and graduate programs of labor and urban studies to working adults and traditional-age students; 2) expand educational opportunities to working adults while meeting the workforce development needs of the City and State, and 3) serve the labor and broader community by conducting research, offering leadership development programs, hosting forums and national conferences, and publishing articles, books, and a national labor journal to promote debate on issues critical to labor and working-class communities.

SLU seeks an experienced and dynamic individual to lead the development and implementation of systems, policies, and processes for registration, enrollment, and academic operations, as well as other student services for the School. The Registrar effectively manages a student-centered Registrar's Office that balances technology and quality data with efficient, convenient, and professional services that support the School's curriculum. As the primary steward of all official academic records, s/he manages all student academic information; maintains/ensures the integrity, confidentiality, and security of all related documents in accordance with FERPA guidelines; and ensures compliance with University and School academic policies and procedures, as well as compliance with Federal and State laws.

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Operations, the Registrar manages technology-based student information services and systems essential to the School, including course registration, class scheduling, articulation agreements, degree audits, transcripts, graduation, retention, and progress toward degree completion. Additionally, the Registrar promotes academic and enrollment strategic planning in alignment with the University's enrollment objectives and overall strategic goals by analyzing and reporting on data concerning educational policies, curriculum, academics, and student performance.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Define and develop core business processes, policies, and procedures to lead the administrative and operational activities of the Offices of Registrar and Enrollment.

  • Collaborate with the University Registrar, campus Registrars, and CUNY community to implement best practices.

  • Promote academic and enrollment strategic planning in alignment with the University's enrollment objectives and overall strategic goals by analyzing and reporting on data concerning educational policies, curriculum, academics, and student performance to formulate policies.

  • Ensure academic and administrative records are collected, maintained, and disseminated in compliance with applicable laws.

  • In conjunction with others, develops and/or manages ongoing improvements to maximize course scheduling, classroom selection, the academic calendar, registration, grade reporting, grade distribution and certification.

  • Manages the Campus Solutions module of the University's PeopleSoft-based ERP system called CUNYfirst;

  • Conduct periodic reviews and system updates of course catalogs, course codes, and schedules.

  • Serve as the School's FERPA resource and compliance officer.

  • Serve as the School's certifying official and be responsible for all student enrollment reporting to the National Student Clearinghouse.

  • Collaborate with SLU’s faculty and staff, Academic Governing Council, and other standing committees to oversee and enforce academic policies consistently and accurately.

  • Serve on various College and University-wide academic and administrative committees.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and eight years' related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Eight years of progressive and innovative experience within Academic Records/Registrar preferred or related field. Good understanding of higher education.

  • Excellent professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; most specifically in Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Experience working in a complex environment with a mix of undergraduate, graduate, campus-based, and online programs.

  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft system.

  • Excellent project management, organizational and planning capabilities are necessary.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Directs College registration operations and serves as Registrar.

  • Provides leadership in advancing the College's enrollment goals and is responsible for all activities associated with the registration process

  • Develops strategic plan to address student enrollment, registration activities, data collection and dissemination, records confidentiality and degree audit protocol; assures quality of testing and implementation of system updates

  • Oversees a wide array of enrollment and retention initiatives and special projects; recommends and administers enhanced technology applications to improve processing systems and data integrity

  • Assesses outcomes and formulates responses to meet established goals and objectives; presents performance results data to facilitate executive decision-making

  • Ensures reporting requirements are completed in timely and accurate manner to fulfill various legal obligations; maintains audit trails

  • Manages professional and clerical staff as well as department budget

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
