POSITION DETAILS
Hunter College invites applications for a Director of Environmental Health & Safety. In addition to CUNY Title Overview, the Director of Environmental Health & Safety will report to the Vice President for Administration to perform the following duties:
Oversees all campus health and safety operations including academic and research lab safety and compliance as well as general staff health and safety compliance.
Maintains compliance with all OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and New York State and City regulatory Careers Job Search guidelines.
Ensures all required reporting is submitted to maintain compliance.
Develops and implements safety training for the campus community.
Ensures compliance with FDNY regulations for laboratory safety only.
Establishes environmental health and safety protocols to minimize risks.
Oversees inspections of all facilities, including research and teaching laboratories, to ensure safe operating conditions
Manages biological, chemical, and radioactive waste disposal programs
Provides for appropriate faculty, staff, and student training programs and communications
Selects and implements techniques for identifying hazards, assessing risks, and conducting investigations
Facilitates faculty and administration participation in projects with environmental health and safety implications
Plans and formulates environmental health and safety policies and coordinates efforts with University- wide programs and policies
Responds to environmental health and safety complaints.
Collaborates with all members of the College and University communities regarding environmental health and safety matters and attends weekly Vice President for Administration leadership team meetings.
Maintains all required facility records, including daily inspection logs, health records, and protocols, in computer databases and paper files.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and eight years' related experience is required. An advanced degree in environmental science, risk management, industrial hygiene, chemistry, or related engineering, public or business management discipline is preferred. Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, New York State and City regulations, and a familiarity with current applicable standards and procedures is required.
