The School of Education of Hunter College-CUNY invites applications for an open-rank tenure track position in Educational Leadership to be effective Fall 2023. Appointment to the position will be at the assistant, associate, or full rank based on previous experience and scholarly record. The college places a high priority on research and teaching excellence with an expectation that the candidate will also be active in their professional field.

Hunter’s educational leadership program has two tracks, both of which lead to School Building Leader (SBL) and School District Leader (SDL) certifications. The more traditional track (ADSUP) contains discrete courses taught by experts in their fields; the more innovative track (CLASS) is grounded in continuous improvement with each cohort led by one instructor over time. The selected candidate should be willing and able to teach in both tracks, and therefore bring either direct experience with continuous improvement methodologies or a willingness to learn our model once joining our team.

Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to equity and social justice in education. The college is strongly committed to achieving excellence through recruiting diverse candidates with regard to race, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation and other historically under-represented groups. We also seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to issues of diversity and inclusion in urban educational settings.

The selected candidate will be expected to conduct research and publish scholarly writing in educational leadership; present scholarship at academic conferences; demonstrate a commitment to and ideally an impact on social justice and equity in education; teach graduate courses in both tracks of our program; know and/or learn our model of continuous improvement; supervise students in clinical placements; develop and maintain relationships with the NYCDOE, its schools, and other relevant organizations; advise graduate students; serve on department, school, college and university committees; develop research grant proposals, and demonstrate leadership in the field.

Required : Ph.D. or Ed.D in education, educational leadership, or a related field; extensive knowledge of theory, research, and practice in educational leadership; strong evidence of established or promising research and scholarly activity appropriate for rank in a domain relevant to educational leadership; evidence of a strong connection between scholarship/practice and issues of diversity, equity and inclusion in education; evidence of established or potential for grant funding; evidence of commitment to and passion for high-quality university teaching, including through hands-on learning methodologies; evidence of experience with coaching and/or supervision of emerging leaders; competence in a variety of methods and tools for university teaching in multiple modalities, including online/hybrid; commitment to work in diverse and urban settings.

Preferred : Experience implementing or leading Strategic Inquiry or another model of continuous improvement; experience as a school building or district leader; experience with New York City or other large urban district contexts.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
