FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Sociology at Hunter College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate professor position with a concentration in religion. The chosen candidate will teach courses for the Sociology department and the Center for Jewish Studies. Courses will include sociology of religion, sociology of Jewish communities, and other courses in their specific area of specialization. .

QUALIFICATIONS

For Assistant, Associate Professor:

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in extreme religious communities, including their internal dynamics as well as the experiences of those who have left such communities. Candidates should have a PhD in hand, preferably in Sociology, and demonstrate a robust research agenda, including extant peer-reviewed publications, and a proven record of teaching excellence

VACCINE REQUIREMENT

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

COMPENSATION

Salary commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience

Assistant professor: $52,267 - $99,532

Associate professor: $67,784 - $117,805
