The Philosophy Department at Hunter College, the City University of New York invites applications for a tenure-track, open-rank appointment beginning Fall semester 2023. Salary commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.

AOS: Ethics. The successful candidate will have a record of research excellence in ethics, commensurate with their experience level, and will have a promising agenda for future research. AOC: Applied Ethics. The successful candidate will also have evidence of an active research program in some field of practical ethics. A track record of excellent undergraduate teaching is also required. The candidate will be expected to teach three undergraduate courses per semester (six per year), including courses in Bioethics, Technology Ethics, Environmental Ethics, and Ethics and Public Policy.


For Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor:

A Ph.D in Philosophy by September 1, 2023 is required. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

If a candidate is hired pre-tenure, they will begin with six course releases to be used during their first five years.


Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

Associate Professor: $67,784 - $117,805

Full Professor: $83,878 - $141,858
