FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Social Sciences, Human Services & Criminal Justice at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) invites applications for an Instructor/Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in Psychology starting Fall 2022.

Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is a vibrant, pluralistic learning community committed to the intellectual and personal growth of students. The Social Sciences, Human Services and Criminal Justice Department is a multidisciplinary department with teachers/scholars from a variety of disciplines – Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Economics, Geography, History, Human Services, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology. The department would like to attract new faculty members who will share and contribute to the growth of the department through teaching, research, and guidance duties. We invite applications foran Instructor/Assistant, Associate or Full Professorin Psychology starting Fall 2022.

The successful candidate will perform teaching, research, department and college service, and student guidance duties. Faculty members must demonstrate the ability to teach a culturally and linguistically diverse student population as evidenced by outstanding student teaching evaluations. Demonstrated capacity to use a diverse range of effective and new technology-based strategies as well as openness to adopting new practices is expected. Research and publication are expected for tenure and promotion. In addition, faculty are expected to participate in activities such as curriculum development, grant writing, assessment, faculty development, and mentoring student projects, as well as sharing responsibility for committee and department assignments, and working cooperatively for the good of the college. Evening /weekend schedule may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

For Assistant, Associate or Full Professor:

Ph.D. in Psychology required with a specialization in cognition, neuroscience, and/or neuropsychology preferred. Evening/weekend schedule may be required.

For Associate or Full Professor, candidate must have a record of significant achievement in the field. Three years college teaching experience preferred. Experience with teaching and learning technologies preferred.

For Instructor:

Master’s degree in Psychology or related field, and active progress towards a Doctorate required. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, an interest in productive scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the college. Persons appointed in the instructor title are only eligible for five (5) annual appointments. Appointments to a professorial title subsequent to service as an instructor will only be considered if the candidate has obtained the qualifications for professorial ranks as stated above. Instructors with ABD preferred. Further, experience with teaching and learning technologies preferred.

City University of New York and BMCC expect faculty to have a real passion for teaching and engage in scholarship and research in their fields. Ideal candidates for the faculty positions would have an established research agenda and be able to take advantage of the bountiful academic resources and institutions available within the metropolitan New York area and research opportunities within the City University of New York. Significant research release time is available to junior faculty, and peer-refereed publications are a necessary component for tenure and promotion.

Vaccine mandate:

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

Instructor: $47,089 - $78,005

Assistant Professor: $51,242 - $88,602

Associate Professor: $66,455 - $105,676

Professor: $82,233 - $126,774
