The CUNY School of Medicine (CSOM) at The City College of New York (CCNY) located in the heart of Harlem, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system. Individuals appointed as Clinical Professors - Medical Series are experienced practitioners or teachers in their professions or fields of expertise. The responsibilities of the position include teaching (including, in some cases, clinical instruction), and may include research. Clinical Professors - Medical Series are full-time, non-tenure track positions.

The Family Medicine Clerkship Director/Academic Coach provides a transitional presence between the classroom-based curriculum and the practice-based curriculum of Clerkships. The Clerkship Director will teach in the pre-clerkship and clerkship curriculum, and supervise family medicine site directors and coordinators. The appointee will report directly to the Assistant Dean for the Clinical Curriculum.

Duties include but are limited to:

  • Teach four hours weekly Family Medicine content specific didactic sessions for students on each FM clerkship (all clinical sites) four hours/week for 48 weeks= 12 credit course

  • Grade and provide feedback on all Family Medicine specific required assignments

  • Provide individual Step 1 coaching for pre-clerkship students

  • Teach clinical skills in the Practice of Medicine course

  • Observe, grade and provide feedback to students in Observed Structured Clinical Exams of all pre-clerkship and post-clerkship students

  • Teach clinical skills and provide feedback to students who require remediation

  • Develop curriculum and assessments for the CSOM Family Medicine clerkship

  • Provide faculty development and oversight of our Academic Coaching Committee

  • Supervise the Family Medicine clerkship sites and site directors/coordinators

  • Serve on the Curriculum Committee

  • Serve on appropriate accreditation committees


  • Medical degree from an accredited university

  • Must be a board-certified Family Medicine physician

  • Licensed or license-eligible in New York State

  • Minimum five years experience as a Clerkship Director or in educational leadership, teaching medical students and/or residents

  • Experience in faculty and curriculum and assessment development and in advising medical students

  • Skilled educator with the ability to perform bedside and classroom teaching

  • Demonstrated satisfactory qualifies of personality and character, a record of achievements in his/her profession or field of expertise, and a willingness to cooperate with others for the good of the institution
