POSITION DETAILS

Reporting to the Director of Accounting at The City College of New York, the Finance Manager for Financial Accounting will manage the College's financial operations, including accounting, reporting, analysis, and compliance activities for the college’s foundation.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Participate in developing and recommending internal controls and fiscal policies and

procedures; interpret and ensure compliance with CUNY and governmental policies,

guidelines, rules and regulations.

  • Perform financial data analysis, identify and resolve discrepancies, and explain the

variances to management on decision making for financial operations.

  • Prepare financial statements, including footnote disclosures and the management

discussion and analysis sections for the College's Foundations, Student Association, and

the Auxiliary Enterprise.

  • Communicate with the University Controller's Office, external auditors, and other agencies

for all financial related activities.

  • Provide support on all required tax return preparations.

  • Oversee payroll process using ADP payroll system.

  • Maintain current knowledge of accounting, audit standards, and tax regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and six years' related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Accounting or active CPA license is strongly preferred. Knowledge of

FASB and GASB accounting standards, financial reporting and practices is required.

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • Experience as full-time accountant for non-profit, charitable organizations

  • Experience using Financial Edge (General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable)

and Raiser’s Edge.

  • Strong analytical, evaluative and research skills.

  • Five years of experience and skills working with PeopleSoft preferred.

  • Excellent verbal, writing and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Experience making presentations to senior and executive management.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to establish plans, manage a large workload and

multiple assignments with conflicting priorities, and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced office.

  • Ability to take initiative, use sound judgment to make decisions and exercise discretion and tact.

  • Ability to work effectively, collaboratively, and cooperatively with diverse staffs on various levels.

  • Strong proficiency using computers and software programs, especially on Microsoft Excel,

Access, Word and PowerPoint, as well as PeopleSoft general ledger and online financial systems.

Manages the financial activities of a College or major program.

  • Advises management regarding funding appropriateness and proposes fiscal solutions to resolve academic and/or administrative issues

  • Develops and recommends policies and controls to assure the responsible use of resources

  • Supports strategic planning processes; assesses outcomes and makes recommendations regarding resource allocations

  • Prepares and manages production of statistical/analytical reports pertinent to financial and operational activities

  • Assists in developing budgeting policies and procedures, and interprets University-wide policy

  • Liaisons with auditors and other internal and external agencies as necessary

  • May negotiate contracts

  • May hire, supervise and train finance and/or clerical staff and manage related administrative functions

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
