CUNY Financial Aid Manager in New York, New York
Reporting to the Director of the Office of Financial Aid, the Financial Aid Manager/Compliance Manager will assist the Director of Financial Aid with maintaining full compliance of all rules and regulations that govern or affect Federal and NY State funding. The Financial Aid Manager will work with the Director in developing and enforcing required policies. This person will be well versed in current financial aid rules and regulations and have the knowledge to know where to review new changes in requirements. This person will also educate the financial aid staff and others on current and new rules and regulations. The Financial Aid Manager will also monitor and keep the director informed of changes to rules and regulations that may be coming so the office can be proactive in planning rather than reactive. This individual will participate in and may oversee periodic internal audits of key processes, for example, verification, R2T4, TAP certification, and Satisfactory Academic Progress, to ensure the office staff is performing these functions accurately in accordance with regulations.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Manage day-to-day administrative operations of the Office of Financial Aid for optimal efficiency and optimal level of student service, including advising students and families as needed. Assist the Hub staff in resolving financial aid questions
Manage personnel and other resources necessary to support operations and services, program compliance, and oversee outreach; supervise Financial Aid staff.
Collect and coordinate financial aid data which will be used in all college-wide reporting and SAGE planning
Oversee coordination of technology and information systems in the Office of Financial Aid
Utilize web, social media and publications for effective communication to current and prospective students
Oversee the quality assurance and program compliance of the Federal Title IV financial aid programs (Pell, SEOG, FWS and Direct Loans) including verification, R2T4 process, ISIR loads and corrections, etc
Manage NYS programs and certification and oversee the quality assurance of the New York State financial aid programs (TAP and APTS) including the monitoring of FACTS, HESC files, etc.
Enhance, update and maintain financial aid information on the Guttman website
Monitor all Federal and NY State funds through the CUNYfirst system
Assist in the development and implementation of office policies and procedures
Conduct Financial Aid and CUNYfirst training for Financial Aid and HUB staff. Also assist in conducting FA presentations during Admission orientations and other events
Represent the Director of Financial Aid at College and/or University-wide meetings
Bachelor’s degree and six years’ related experience required.
Six years of directly related financial aid work experience with some One-Stop or other student service function
Progressive experience in supervising, administering and managing federal and NY State financial aid programs
Extensive working knowledge of CUNYfirst (or PeopleSoft/Oracle) Financial Aid module or other Student Information Systems, including use of queries, reporting tools, and troubleshooting system issues
Excellent Microsoft Office skills, including but not limited to Word and Excel.
Multi-lingual ability with strong presentation, interpersonal and verbal communication skills to successfully work with and present to diverse audiences
Experience working well with linguistically, culturally and academically diverse students
Strong work ethic, character, and personal integrity, as well as ability to work with the utmost professionalism, discretion and confidentiality
Detail oriented with strong writing, analytical, evaluative, and organizational skills
Ability to work well in a time-sensitive, dynamic, student-centered and responsive office
Flexibility to work evening hours and occasional weekends
