Reporting to the Associate Director of First Year Programs in Student Academic Success Programs, the First Year Student Engagement Coordinator provides transition support to 1,600 freshmen during the Summer Bridge program, retention- and engagement programming to 1,600 students during the fall Explorations in Justice series, and continued monitoring and retention support to about 500 high-risk students during the Spring to Summer Acceleration Program.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, duties include:

  • Assist with recruitment and coordinate live and asynchronous activities and engagement for Summer Bridge and other pre-matriculation summer programs

  • Promote, plan, facilitate, and monitor participation of events for the justice and area of interest exploration event series, as well as other year-round events

  • Assist by monitoring EAB Navigate academic progress reports, making referrals for coaching, and following up regarding the appropriate intervention to support student success, overall well-being, and acclimation to college life; coordinate student support and make referrals to other resources/offices at the College when needed

  • Identify and recruit eligible students for summer acceleration and recovery workshops

  • Assist in managing deadline/policy reminders and communications in SignalVine

  • Monitor student progress and prepare regular reports

This is a temporary position until June 2023 which may continue depending on funding.

Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work in the office, and this position is based in New York, NY.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.


Bachelor's Degree required.


• Experience in advising, coaching, and/or mentoring undergraduates

•Experience with program recruitment, application tracking, and activity development

• Familiar with first-year success and retention best practices

• Skilled at analyzing large amounts of data and making data-informed decisions to support students

• Embraces a trauma-informed and student-centered approach

• Experience with and commitment to providing inclusive experiences for a diverse population of students at a Minority and Hispanic Serving Institution

• Demonstrated track record of thriving in fast-paced, highly collaborative environments with diverse team members


Provides basic operational and analytical support related to a College's specialized academic program.

  • Supports the directors and managers with orientation preparation, student advisement regarding program requirements, and providing basic information about financial aid and registration

  • Manages office records including faculty files; prepares reports and surveys; collects and maintains statistical data on program activities

  • Serves as liaison to various College offices to provide service delivery and appropriate referrals to students

  • Collects and reviews syllabi to ensure compliance with standards

  • Serves as resource person for students and faculty regarding program policies and procedures

  • May supervise office operations and/or monitor department budget

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
