POSITION DETAILS

The City University of New York (CUNY) seeks an experienced Foundations and Corporation Relations Director for the office of University Advancement. CUNY is the nation’s leading urban public university serving more than 500,000 degree-seeking students. The University comprises of 25 institutions: 11 senior colleges, seven community colleges, William E. Macaulay Honors College at CUNY, CUNY Graduate Center, Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies, CUNY School of Law, CUNY School of Professional Studies and CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy. The office of University Advancement strives to develop new fundraising streams, forging relationships with corporate and philanthropic foundations, and private donors.

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, the Director of Foundations & Corporations Relations partners with CUNY Colleges in developing strategies to encourage foundation and corporate support for their programs. The Director will also work with Advancement Staff, College Presidents, Provosts, Deans, Department Chair, Staff and Faculty in identifying and developing relationships with Top 50 corporations and foundations active in New York City area.

Key duties and responsibilities include, but will not be limited to following:

  • Conducts stewardship and cultivation activities to strengthen relationships with current and prospective corporations and foundations;

  • Researches corporations, foundations, and businesses in targeted areas for development opportunity; advises and provides Colleges with detailed research reports on individuals, corporations, foundations, and business in areas of interest;

  • Builds prospect profiles and manages information;

  • Develops proposals for multi-College approaches to corporations and foundations; organizes and prepares briefings on prospective foundation and corporate donors;

  • Liaises with the College Presidents, staff, and faculty to assist with the Colleges comprehensive campaigns;

  • Responds to specific development-related requests from faculty and staff of the Colleges;

  • Performs related projects as assigned by the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement.

Note: Until further notice, work will be performed in a hybrid manner with 70% onsite presence. All CUNY employees must reside within a commutable distance to the Tri-State area.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and eight years' related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Eight years of experience in fundraising, corporations and foundation relations, or related experience, preferably within an educational institution;

  • Demonstrated knowledge and mastery of tools used for corporation and foundation research and relations;

  • Demonstrated experience in writing proposals;

  • Demonstrated experience in building corporate and foundation profiles, database, and spreadsheet management;

  • Demonstrated success in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and techniques, particularly in foundation fundraising;

  • Excellent interpersonal, managerial, and organizational skills;

  • Detailed-orientation, multi-tasking ability with excellent writing and oral communication skills;

  • Interest in working as a member of a team of development and marketing professionals;

  • Commitment to providing the highest level of support and assistance to the 25 Colleges of the City University of New York.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Directs College corporate and foundation relations strategy and operations.

  • Designs, develops and oversees strategic program to secure corporate and foundation funding for various College initiatives

  • Responsible for meeting specific goals and targets

  • Develops funding strategies, assesses outcome of strategic plan, and refines approaches to meet priority objectives

  • Oversees a portfolio of corporate and foundation donors to establish and sustain ongoing relations; cultivates new prospects

  • Maintains relationships with sponsoring organizations to promote and maintain funding

  • Ensures reporting requirements are completed in timely and accurate manner

  • May develop proposals for institutional, academic, and arts grants

  • Manages professional and clerical staff

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary range is $122,212 - $139,076. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
