CUNY School of Medicine

Full/Part Time

The CUNY School of Medicine (CSOM) at The City College of New York (CCNY) located in the heart of Harlem is the only medical school in the City University of New York system. Over forty years ago, City College decided to make a difference by developing a unique physician training program in the nation, the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, which in the fall of 2017 became The CUNY School of Medicine. Since its founding, the school has been committed to recruiting underrepresented populations into medicine. Our innovative curriculum allows students to complete both their undergraduate Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees in seven years. CSOM graduated its first MD class in 2020. In addition, the CSOM offers a two-year Physician Assistant (PA) program to prepare health professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. The mission of the CSOM is 1) to provide access to medical and PA education to talented youth from social, ethnic, and racial backgrounds historically underrepresented in medicine and to develop health professionals committed to practicing in under-served communities with a special emphasis on primary care and 2) to perform innovative research in community health and biomedicine. There is a continuing shortage of primary care physicians in this country, creating an urgent need for more family practitioners, general internists, pediatricians, and obstetricians/gynecologists in many communities. The shortage of African American, Latinx, and other underrepresented medical professions in inner city areas is particularly acute. CSOM values diversity and inclusion and believes they are essential to achieving excellence. We seek individuals who will contribute to this overall mission.
