ABOUT JOHN JAY COLLEGE

John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) and an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice. Led by President Karol V. Mason, John Jay is a federally designated Hispanic-serving institution, it is ranked third in the nation in Black student success, and it is a top ten institution for promoting student social mobility. John Jay is proud to serve a diverse and dynamic student body of 15,000 students that includes nearly fifty percent students who are first in their family to attend college as well as students who are immigrants, from low-income families, or from other historically underrepresented groups in higher education.

The College participates in the doctoral programs of the Graduate Center of CUNY, and offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees both in traditional criminal justice-related fields of study as well as in a robust portfolio of liberal arts and sciences programs that highlight themes of justice across the arts, sciences, humanities, and social sciences. The College seeks staff and faculty members who thrive in multicultural academic environments and are committed to access and excellence in higher education.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Office of Careers & Industry Partnerships (OCIP) at the City University of New York seeks Industry and Employer Engagement Specialists to identify career opportunities and grow hiring pipelines for CUNY students and graduates.

Specialists will engage with employers in defining workforce needs, identifying hiring challenges and opportunities, specifying skills and proficiencies needed to fill available roles, and exploring partnerships to help grow New York’s emerging industries.

This Initiative is funded through June 2023 and is subject to renewal depending on availability of funds.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Professional Advancement and working closely with the department chair and aspecialized Academic/Career Advisor, the Industry Specialist will serve as a key resource in cultivating industry/employment partnerships that will increase the number of high-quality paid internships and full-time job opportunities for students in the Department of Sciences.

The Department of Sciences at John Jay boasts one of the oldest and most prestigious Forensic Science programs in the country. The Department offers a Bachelor’s of Science, where students can choose to specialize in criminalistics, molecular biology or toxicology. The Department also offers a Bachelor's of Science in Toxicology and Cell and Molecular Biology. Using state-of-the-art equipment, the academic programs prepare our students for all levels of forensic science work in laboratories, in pursuit of careers as scientists, and to provide further education to those currently employed in crime laboratories and in related fields of public safety. With the growing importance of physical evidence in the criminal justice system, the curriculum offered by the Department of Sciences at John Jay is designed to meet the increasing demand for highly trained professionals while also fostering the research to improve the accuracy of forensic analyses.
