CUNY IT Academic Manager (WordPress Website Manager - HE Associate) - Instructional Computing & Information Technology in New York, New York


Reporting to the Chief Information Officer with a dotted line report to the Assistant Vice President of Communications and Marketing, the WordPress Website Manager will be responsible for managing and maintaining the College’s official website. The WordPress Website Manager will oversee and ensure the timely creation of WordPress (“WP”) page templates and modules, and managing the website users and privileges. Based on observed and solicited stakeholder requirements, the WordPress Website Manager will be responsible for identifying, recommending and overseeing continuous improvements to the College’s website and, as needed, the underlying content management system’s (“CMS”) features and functionality. The WordPress Website Manager will collaborate with the technical support team to resolve technical issues and system integrations. The WordPress Website Manager will also oversee WP theme and plugin updates, and ensure the website is keep current with all College technical, security and system standards. The WordPress Website Manager will support content creators by answering questions and providing custom page templates when appropriate and approved. The WordPress Website Manager will ensure the website content is accessible and optimally organized to engage potential qualified applicants, foster student success, and maximize desired audience awareness of and support for events, campaigns, and various other College initiatives.

Duties and responsibilities of the position will include, but are not limited to the following:

Utilizes management best practices for all such implementations, ensuring there proper project initiation, scoping, clear requirements, execution, measurement, and proactive communication to help optimize the website user experience.

Monitors WP template libraries and modules, and keeps the WP theme and plugins up to date and in compliance with College technical, security and system standards. Manages the creation of custom templates and modules where appropriate.

Oversees users and site privileges to achieve the desired workflow and publication review processes.

Provides training and support to those users in their use of the templates and modules to create content.

Manages analytics tools to track web pages and campaign performance.

Provides stakeholders with timely reports and performance measures to inform campaign decisions. Assists stakeholders in implementing analytics-driven content improvements.

Researches and oversees website enhancements, continuously recommending improvements based on best practices and emerging technologies. Manages tools to support enhancement requests.


  • Bachelor’s degree and six years’ related experience required.

  • Experience customizing and managing accessible WP sites, users, third party plugins, system integrations and WP Multisite.

  • Experience managing Google Analytics.


Manages a range of academic technologies to support College instructional goals.

  • Manages and supports the operations of University-wide and College-specific instructional technologies, multimedia centers, and/or research units

  • Assures successful adaptation of new academic systems within the existing College environment

  • Communicates regularly and proactively with the academic systems user community concerning technology needs, new projects, and policies

  • Recommends and acquires technology upgrades and improvements

  • Serves as project manager for the introduction of new technology and equipment

  • Manages day-to-day operations, overseeing assigned staff

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
