CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The Office of Computing and Information Services (CIS) at the City University of New York (CUNY) support the IT and telecommunications needs of CUNY's 24 colleges. CIS supports enterprise IT and applications; develops new technologies that advance University's core mission; builds, upgrades and maintains the University's network; operates the University's Data Center and help desk; develops disaster recovery and business continuity plans; and leads the CUNYfirst Enterprise Resource Planning Project (ERP), which integrates 25 university systems, covering student administration, financial management, and human resources.
Reporting to the Application and Monitoring Tools Manager, the Application and Monitoring Tools Assistant, under limited supervision, is responsible for the operational day-to-day support of monitoring IT applications and infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Analyzes, monitors and works with internal technical teams to troubleshoot IT applications, infrastructure and connectivity issues.
Implements new monitoring tool SolarWinds from SevOne. Major activity includes conversion of data and processes to new platform, and adding application services.
Upgrades Micro Focus Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) software.
Collaborates with internal teams to gather monitoring requirements and develop comprehensive application templates for in-depth monitoring.
Serves as a technical and testing point of contact with Application Lifecycle Management (ALM), SevOne and SolarWinds vendors.
Develops training materials to educate technical users and application groups on the use of SolarWinds.
Performs other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
A minimum of six months of full-time experience in a computer or technology-related position. Experience that is more than 20 hours per week and less than 35 hours per week may be counted at 50% of the requirement (i.e., two months of part time experience equal to one month full time experience)
Additional experience and/or education that can be met by ONE of the following: An additional three years and six months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; an Associate's degree plus 18 months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Demonstrated English Language proficiency
A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
This title has three levels. To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.
The ideal candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Experience with monitoring platforms such as SevOne and/or Solarwinds.
Experience with installation and upgrading an ALM tool such as Micro Focus.
Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems.
Ability to run controls and jobs utilizing BMC Control-M batch automation software.
Knowledge of SQL to run queries and to create custom reports.
Basic ability to run commands using bash and Java.
Familiarity with integration of active directory and LDAP with applications for authentication purposes.
Familiarity with VMWare.
Ability to work with, articulate the needs, and possess strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with university stakeholders; including subject matter experts and technical staff.
Outstanding communication skills with the ability to facilitate group discussions and communications.

*This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment only.
