GENERAL DUTIES
I.T. Associates perform moderately complex professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Associates work in areas such as development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include resolving complex technology problems and serving as a technical resource. They have considerable latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may have supervisory responsibilities.
I.T. Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines.

The Networking and Telecommunications Associate supports the administrative and technical aspects of the College’s data networks, telecommunications systems; as well as maintenance, monitoring, and planning for associated infrastructure to support both academic and administrative responsibilities. The successful candidate will report to the IT Computer Systems Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supports the Director of Technology Infrastructure services to implement, maintain, and support voice and data networks across the College.
Works with the Director to Ensure that the appropriate network and telecommunications infrastructures are correctly designed and incorporated into building projects for renovation, new construction, or expansions of services in existing facilities.
Works with wiring and other contractors to support their work, including helping with design, ensuring materials are available in a timely fashion, and begin a technical resource.
Supports College-owned digital telecommunications systems, networks, other related equipment and services, and upgrades, associated equipment enhancements.
Uses output from monitoring tools to help plan for future growth and deal with technical issues that may arise.
Supports the availability of all services offered by managing disaster avoidance and recovery efforts caused by events like power outages, hardware failures, construction damage to outside plant cabling, etc.
Participates in the establishment of goals and standards conducive to the successful development of ongoing and enhanced capabilities, in consultation with the Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
An equivalent of seven years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: seven years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus five years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus three years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position
Demonstrated English Language proficiency
A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
This job has three levels. To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Additional Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in network and telecommunications analysis and experience with multi-vendor network and telecommunications environments is required. Demonstrated successful experience with supporting complex network or telecommunications projects is required. Experience with data servers and desktop computer applications, including email, internet, word processing, database, and spreadsheets is preferred. Work experience in a higher education environment is preferred.
Skills: Strong technical skills are required. An understanding of network design and voice, and data networking and telecommunications design, protocols, and products is required, including TCP/IP, routers, switches, intrusion/detection/prevention systems, firewalls, telephone switches, voice mail systems, call record data collection, and knowledge of other related telecommunications equipment. A detailed understanding of current and emerging voice, data, and telecommunications technologies is required. Effective interpersonal, customer service, organizational, and team-building skills are required. The ability to maintain confidentiality regarding information processed, stored, transmitted, or accessed by the systems is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in writing technical specification documents are required. The ability to work with a variety of constituencies possessing a wide range of technical knowledge is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. An understanding of digital telephony engineering and video-based distributed learning systems is preferred.
COMPENSATION
$89,639
