Information Technology (IT) is the division of the Graduate Center responsible for voice, video, and data systems and services. The mission of this unit is to promote, facilitate, and support the effective use of technology in the learning process, in instruction and research, and in processing and accessing institutional information.
Reporting to the Media Services Manager, the Media Services Associate provides proactive and reactive support for all AV technologies and video conferencing systems in conference, training, auditoria, and/or public spaces as well as support desktop video conferencing software.
This position will have a work schedule of 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Sets up and operates all types of multimedia equipment, components and systems, including video production and related equipment; sets up, operates and breaks down a range of multimedia equipment, from basic to high-end audio, video, projection, videoconferencing, sound and lighting equipment, as well as related desktop or laptop computers;
Provides troubleshooting support for all AV and conference room technologies; facilitates in-house resolution where possible and consults with Assistant Director for the Division of Client Services for additional support when necessary;
Administers and manages the LifeSize Videoconferencing System, Video Streaming Server, Audio Conferencing and Web Conferencing infrastructure at the application level;
Administers and manages the Distributed Digital Signage System and new Video Conference Infrastructure;
Assists with the mounting, cabling, installation and servicing of projectors, screens, flat panel monitors, control consoles, audio capture, distribution and reinforcement systems, audio conference systems, video conference systems for various GC sites;
Assists with the use of classroom technologies including coordination and provision of video-capture services for classes, events and special assignments;
Mentors back-up support staff and/or other AV technicians as necessary to help develop their knowledge and troubleshooting skills;
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other IT units and departments, and external vendors/contractors;
Interacts, coordinates and communicates effectively with colleagues across Facilities and Campus Planning, as well as, staff in such offices as Special Events, Room Reservations, Building Design, Public Safety and other units at the GC;
Collaborates with Asset Management Assistant in managing the location and storage of AV equipment; participates with salvaging equipment and assists with the annual GC inventory;
Prepares effective written materials for the purpose of user and system documentation;
Performs other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
An equivalent of seven years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: seven years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus five years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus three years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position
Demonstrated English Language proficiency
A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
This job has three levels. To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.
A preferred candidate should have:
Three (3) years of experience in supporting AV and conferencing technologies in a fast-paced, customer oriented environment.
Working knowledge of current audiovisual, audio, video and web conferencing technologies.
Experience with the installation and support of audiovisual systems hardware, software and technical infrastructure, including twisted pair, audio and video cable termination.
Experience with video conferencing systems and streaming technology.
Knowledge of principles of audiovisual and low-voltage technologies design, development, engineering, integration, implementation, performance criteria and analysis.
Familiarity with PC hardware; Mac hardware a plus; familiarity with Windows Operating System (Windows 7/10) and Mac OS X are a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
New Hire: $65,143 Incumbent: $73,609
