I.T. Senior Associates perform highly complex professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Senior Associates perform a range of work in development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include diagnosing, evaluating, overseeing and resolving highly complex projects. They have wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may serve in lead roles on complex programs or projects, and/or serve as a direct supervisor of a unit or group.

I.T. Senior Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines, decision-making ability in situations related to those disciplines, and be able to serve as a resource in these areas. They may contribute to decisions on I.T. policies and technical standards.

IT Senior Associate




The City College of New York (CCNY) is the founding institution of the City University of New York (CUNY) and is comprised of outstanding programs in architecture, engineering, medicine, and the liberal arts and sciences annually serving over 16,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Leading CUNY in funded research, CCNY hosts a number of research centers including two new advanced research centers.

CCNY’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) is a vital component of the college's operation responsible for software applications, hardware support, telecommunications, media services, network infrastructure, instructional technologies and information security. The OIT is committed to collaborating with the college community to provide excellent information technology products and services.

Under the general supervision of the Chief Information Officer and/or Deputy CIO, exercising independent initiative and judgment, the Director of Academic Technology Services will be responsible for providing leadership and overseeing the management, design, implementation and operations of the academic technology services for the OIT. The Academic Technology Director will serve as a lead for the management of day-to-day operations of audio visual services, classroom and conference technology architecture and design, including the OIT equipment loaner program, digital signage, and video conferencing solutions.

The candidate will be accountable for retaining and recruiting the best personnel under his/her supervision, including writing job descriptions, interviewing candidates, and making hiring decisions and recommendations. Supervision includes developing performance plans and standards, and evaluating employee performance; when appropriate recommending professional development and promotions and administering corrective actions and/or disciplinary action; responding to informal grievances; assessing training needs and securing training resources; determining work schedules and work assignments; managing leave requests; and maintaining a positive work environment.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Assist the CIO and DCIO in ensuring that overall operational and strategic initiatives for OIT are aligned with the college's goals and mission.

  • Direct and manage the day-to-day operations of the Academic Technology Services units.

  • Direct and manage technologies in classrooms, lecture halls, collaboration and common spaces, conference rooms, and college events to ensure reliable service.

  • Develop and maintain best practices and standards in the adoption of design, architecture, and operations procedures of collaborative and instructional solutions; ensuring the reliability, security and functionality of OIT's deployed audio visual solutions.

  • Adopt efficient measures for maintaining the technology life-cycle by assessing, acquiring, deploying, maintaining, updating and decommissioning academic technology resources.

  • Lead, coordinate, participate and/or evaluate simultaneous audio visual and collaboration solutions collaborating with other OIT units (e.g. Networking, Telecommunications, Systems Administration, Client Services, Business Services), Facilities, administrative leadership, external agencies, contractors, and vendors.

  • Lead the Academic Technology units in efforts to foster, facilitate and support the use of technologies for teaching and learning.

  • Lead efforts to support academic departments in high-level instructional technology planning and evaluation of new technologies and to identify technology needs and forward-thinking innovative solutions to improve teaching and learning experience.

  • Identify training needs in the area of instructional technology, designing and delivering appropriate educational plans for faculty, staff, and students.

  • Lead effort to create instructional materials and provide seminars, demonstrations, and training workshops to faculty, staff, and students in understanding and applying instructional and collaborative technologies.

  • Direct and manage digital signage and video conferencing solutions.

  • Perform project management duties in areas of responsibility.

  • In consultation with the CIO and Deputy CIO, develop and enforce policies and procedures for carrying out projects and directives.

  • Create and chair/co-chair committee in academic technology to promote collaboration between OIT and academic departments in addition to technology initiative prioritization in academics.

  • Perform other duties as requested.


  1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

  2. An equivalent of ten years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: ten years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus eight years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus six years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position

  3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency

  4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.

This title has three levels. In addition to the minimum qualifications above, To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.


  • Experience supporting E-learning technologies, software, and hardware, and applying them to university instruction including lecture capture technologies.

  • Experience designing, managing and implementing collaborative and instructional solutions for classrooms, lecture halls, collaboration spaces and conference rooms.

  • Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) considerations when designing instructional solutions.

  • Experience operating in a complex and fast-paced higher education environment that requires highly effective interpersonal, communication, negotiation and leadership skills.
