GENERAL DUTIES

I.T. Senior Associates perform highly complex professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Senior Associates perform a range of work in development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include diagnosing, evaluating, overseeing and resolving highly complex projects. They have wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may serve in lead roles on complex programs or projects, and/or serve as a direct supervisor of a unit or group.

I.T. Senior Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines, decision-making ability in situations related to those disciplines, and be able to serve as a resource in these areas. They may contribute to decisions on I.T. policies and technical standards.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Senior Systems Engineer at Borough of Manhattan Community College is responsible to ensure the stability, integrity and efficient operation of all the in-house and cloud based IT systems such as window-based servers, VMWARE, SharePoint, Storage, F5 and Monitoring tools etc. The Senior Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify and resolves all issues in order to maximize the benefit of BMCC owned various IT systems. The Senior Systems Engineer will also lead the implementation of new technologies, taking ownership of the issues and perform root cause analysis of the major problems.

Job Duties

  • Supervise junior level staff and provide technical support for various applications such as EMS, SharePoint, NPMD Tools, File service etc.

  • Performs capacity and performance planning for Datacenter hosted infrastructure.

  • Participate in the planning, designing and building new service offerings including on premise, cloud hosted infrastructure, business continuity, disaster recovery, and managed services.

  • Maintain systems documentation and communicate technical knowledge to team members.

  • Resolve incidents and complete service requests in a timely manner.

  • Performs infrastructure troubleshooting to diagnose all hardware and application performance related issues.

  • Responsible for developing installation and configuration procedures.

  • Research and recommend on task automation using innovative techniques for system administration tasks.

  • Monitors all systems using variety of tools.

  • Create and maintain run book of all supported applications.

  • Willing to learn new technologies in a timely manner and ready to accept new duties/roles as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

  2. An equivalent of ten years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: ten years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus eight years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus six years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position

  3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency

  4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.

This title has three levels. In addition to the minimum qualifications above, To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in administering windows based Servers in both virtual and bare metal environments with tasks including physical installation, configuration, patching and performing periodic upgrades. Must have experience with application delivery controllers.

Required Experience/Skills:

  • VMWARE and Hyper-V.

  • Microsoft Azure.

  • Knowledge of Dell and EMC storage hardware.

  • Windows Server 2006-2019.

  • F5 LTM and GTM.

  • Expertise in network protocols, network security and routing

  • Knowledge of disk, memory, CPU, NIC, HBA, firmware, RAID, performance concepts (I/O, paging, swapping, system calls), iSCSI, Fibre Channel, Ethernet, firmware is necessary.

  • Knowledge of Hyper-V is a plus.

Desired Experience/Skills

  • Working knowledge of PowerShell and python is a plus.

  • Knowledge of vRNI.

  • Strong analytical, diagnostics and problem-solving skills with ability to work independently.

  • Strong experience in Windows and VMWARE system Engineering.

  • LAN/WAN networking experience.

  • Proficiency in PowerShell and shell scripting experience.

COMPENSATION

$84,345
