I.T. Senior Associates perform highly complex professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Senior Associates perform a range of work in development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include diagnosing, evaluating, overseeing and resolving highly complex projects. They have wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may serve in lead roles on complex programs or projects, and/or serve as a direct supervisor of a unit or group.
I.T. Senior Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines, decision-making ability in situations related to those disciplines, and be able to serve as a resource in these areas. They may contribute to decisions on I.T. policies and technical standards.

The Microsoft SQL Server DBA at Borough of Manhattan Community College is responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of the SQL server environment. This is a “hands-on” position and requires solid technical skills. The successful candidate will serve as a technical expert over complex database support activities. Work with application developers, business analysts and other team members to review the business requirements and translate them into database objects.
Job Duties include but are not limited to:
Responsible for administration, technical support and trouble-shooting of SQL Server database Servers.
Performs system quality check and maintenance of databases plus do performance monitoring and capacity planning including root cause analysis for all issues.
Provide technical expertise in the use of database technology.
Documenting systems and communicate technical knowledge to team members.
Actively participate in incident/problem management and ensure the availability of the application database as per the business requirement and raise all capacity related issues to the concerned stakeholders and bringing to closure.
Change Management – Maintain the integrity of the production environment and document all changes & follow change approval process.
Responsible for publishing daily sanity check / health-check report to concerned distribution groups and fix the issues as identified.
Ensures security policies and procedures are followed to the highest level of system and data confidentiality and integrity.
Identify and evaluate industry trends in database systems to serve as a subject matter expert of information and advice for upper management.
Perform other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
An equivalent of ten years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: ten years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus eight years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus six years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position
Demonstrated English Language proficiency
A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
This title has three levels. In addition to the minimum qualifications above, To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.
2+ years’ experience in administering SQL Server virtual environments with tasks including installation, patching, upgrade & configuration.
Must have experience in how to perform Automation of various administrative tasks using SSIS.
Proficiency in at least one programming language (C#/VB.net).
Ability to troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention.
Extensive experience with tuning and optimizing SQL Server and Database performance.
Experience with VMWARE is a plus.
Knowledge of monitoring & database security tools like Spotlight & Imperva is a plus.
Knowledge of version control software such as TFS, Team work Visual Source safe etc is a plus.
Knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics.
Microsoft Database Certification is a plus.
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
