Work tasks include resolving minor technology problems, monitoring activities, and maintaining documentation. They have latitude for independent initiative and judgment, under supervision.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
In collaboration with eight of CUNY’s senior campuses, Macaulay Honors College (MHC) provides the most promising undergraduate students with an elite academic program of interdisciplinary seminars, personalized advisement, and experiential learning supported by dedicated funding for study abroad, internships, and research. Reporting to the IT Manager, and working in collaboration with members of the IT Department, the IT Support Specialist will provide hardware and software support primarily to staff, as well as faculty and students. S/he will assist in maintenance, implementation, troubleshooting and end-user support for desktop applications, mobile devices, and servers, as well as IP telephony systems and multimedia. This is a hands-on, highly technical position in a Mac environment.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Provides first-response helpdesk and technical support for end users with their Apple devices, desktops and laptops, Apple iPhones and iPads, and Android devices;
Assists in planning, analyzing and maintaining: Desktop and Servers, MacOS, Windows, Linux; System and Network Infrastructure;
Develops and maintains security procedures for software, network, and email;
Performs routine preventive maintenance and adjustments according to specified guidelines and procedures;
Troubleshoots, repairs and replaces electronic equipment including hard drives, printers, video and audio hardware;
Prepares proposals and written reports; participates in task forces to resolve security and configuration issues;
Facilitates communication between helpdesk and staff regarding services provided, access and usage policies, etc.;
Assists and interacts with vendors regarding IT Infrastructure;
Performs other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
A minimum of six months of full-time experience in a computer or technology-related position. Experience that is more than 20 hours per week and less than 35 hours per week may be counted at 50% of the requirement (i.e., two months of part time experience equal to one month full time experience)
Additional experience and/or education that can be met by ONE of the following: An additional three years and six months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; an Associate's degree plus 18 months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Demonstrated English Language proficiency
A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
This title has three levels. To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.
A preferred candidate should have:
Proficient usage of command line on Mac, Windows and Linux.
Advanced experience with troubleshooting, diagnosing, and fixing macOS and Windows operating systems using tools within command line for Mac, Windows and Linux.
Strong understanding of Mobile Device Management platforms, in particular with open-source Munki and all of its components, autopkg, etc.
Subject matter expertise with iOS Apple devices.
Experience with Cyber Security concepts, PGP, TLS/SSL, encryption, etc.
Knowledge of Active Directory client-server implementations.
Current certifications in CompTIA Network+; CompTIA A+, Apple ACMT, and/or Apple ACSP.
Excellent communication, writing, and customer service skills.
Experience in these areas: Apple macOS hardware and software, Networking support (wireless and wired), Server and client virtualization (VMware), Mobile Device Management technologies, Servers and storage, Switches and routers (Cisco), Active Directory, McAfee suite (ePo, ENS, MNE, etc.), Encryption technologies (HTTPS, SSL, PKI, PGP, etc.), DNS, DHCP, VPN, and TCP/IP stack, Messaging systems (Exchange, Google Apps, Office 365), Content management system (WordPress), Munki open-source collection tools, Other open-source technologies.
Knowledge of desktop and server software (macOS, Windows, Linux, SQL, Apache).
Ability to work productively as an individual contributor and collaboratively as a team member in a fast-paced, time-sensitive, customer-responsive, and team-oriented environment.
Two years of experience in higher education with IT support in a hands-on, highly technical, Mac environment.
Ability to work evenings and weekends.
New hire: $51,569* Incumbent: $58,274 * This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment only.
