The Department of Computer Science ( at Hunter College of The City University of New York invites applications for multiple positions at the rank of Lecturer to start at the beginning of the Fall 2023 semester. This is a full-time appointment with a renewable contract and eligibility for a Certificate of Continuous Service.

Located on the 68th Street campus on the upper east side of Manhattan, the diverse faculty of the Computer Science Department at Hunter works closely with students and each other in an open and collegial atmosphere. The Department is committed to building a diverse faculty and welcomes applications from women and underrepresented minorities. Bachelor’s degree is required. The degree needs to be in Computer Science or related areas, broadly defined.

Preferred are candidates that have a demonstrable strength in computation; graduate-level coursework is strongly preferred. Also preferred are: The ability to teach successfully, and the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. A successful candidate will be expected to teach, design curricula, and oversee adjuncts and undergraduate teaching assistants in lectures with 200+ students that make up the pedagogy for the core undergraduate computer science curriculum as well as share responsibility for committee and other departmental assignments. The Department has a master’s program and a Computer Science K-12 Education Program jointly with Hunter’s School of Education. Applications that demonstrate the ability to teach courses at the masters level are encouraged.

Ideal candidates will also be able to work collaboratively and contribute to departmental strengths in teaching, and be able to lead efforts to broaden participation in computing both across disciplines, including, but not limited to communications, film and media, economics, geographical sciences, and the lab sciences, and to diverse populations across the campus.


Salary commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience ($52,072 - $92,878)
