FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

CUNY SPS currently seeks candidates for a non-tenure track position at the rank of Lecturer (Doctoral Schedule) for the School's two online programs: Bachelor of Information Systems and Master of Sciences in Data Science. This position reports to the Academic Director of Bachelor of Information Systems and Master of Sciences in Data Science.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The general responsibilities will include but are not limited to: teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, participating in information sessions and orientations for new Data Science/Information Systems students, supporting the implementation of the program and School’s strategic plans, engaging in curriculum and program development, participating in learning outcomes assessment, conducting teaching observations, reviewing courses for quality standards, providing service to the program and School via membership in School governance committees, and other duties as assigned.

  • Oversee, implement, and monitor course site materials, learning objectives and student evaluations

  • Instructor evaluation, including Peer Teaching Observation and Peer Mentoring activities

  • Recruit instructors and acclimate them to the school’s online learning model/methodology

  • Support the Director, Associate Director and Assistant Director in student and alumni community-building

  • Help create and support initiatives for further program development, which may include career advice and relationship-building with local employers to create internships and job placements

  • Support the creation and updating/revising of courses and new degree programs; and, support the department in developing and launching new degree and/or certificate programs, in partnership with CUNY Online.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

With the rapid growth of the Information Systems undergraduate degree program, SPS is looking for a lecturer to teach across the many different IS and DS disciplines. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A doctoral degree in a technical or quantitative field

  • Demonstrated proficiency in software programming in at least Python, R, and SQL, along with a foundational understanding of information systems, computer network infrastructure, data security, systems analysis and design, software architecture and IT governance.

  • At successful track record of teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels

  • Experience with curriculum development and assessment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonalskills;

  • Enthusiasm and demonstrated commitment toteaching;

  • Demonstrated commitment tocampus values ofdiversity, equity, andinclusion.

COMPENSATION

Salary commensurate with education and experience between$79,808 - $86,698a year.
