FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Classics Program of Hunter College, City University of New York, invites applications for a Doctoral Lecturer in Classics, beginning in fall 2023. This is a full-time appointment with a renewable contract and eligibility for a Certificate of Continuous Service. The normal teaching load is four courses per semester. We welcome scholars with different specializations related to the ancient Mediterranean world. The successful candidate will be expected to teach broadly in classics at all undergraduate levels including courses in Greek and Roman literature in translation, classical civilization courses, and specialized topic courses. We are seeking someone who will be able to teach and organize our offerings that contribute to the general education program at Hunter, including courses in classical mythology, the Greek and Latin Roots of English, and classical civilizations and literature. In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to curricular development and perform administrative duties within the program.

QUALIFICATIONS

PhD degree in Classics by June 2023 is required.The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence or strong promise of excellence in the teaching of the ancient Mediterranean world and the Greek and Latin languages. We seek applicants who have the ability to cooperate with faculty, students, and staff of all backgrounds for the good of the institution, and who are committed to encouraging and supporting our highly diverse student body

The ability to teach both ancient Greek and Latin at all undergraduate levels is required.

VACCINE REQUIREMENT

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

COMPENSATION

Salary commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience ($56,821 - $98,309)
