FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Psychology at Hunter College of The City University of New York invites applications for a position at the rank of Doctoral Lecturer in Animal Behavior. This is a full-time appointment beginning August 25th, 2023, with a renewable yearly contract and eligibility for a Certificate of Continuous Service. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in animal behavior, experimental psychology, and statistics. Some evening or weekend teaching may be required. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in scholarly activities and professional organizations in psychology. This position includes teaching the equivalent of 8 courses (24 credits) at the undergraduate level per academic year. Allocation for overseeing and supervising the ABC Non-Thesis Externship course will be considered part of this teaching workload. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Department Chairperson, including service on departmental, divisional, and College-wide committees.
QUALIFICATIONS
We seek an individual with a strong commitment to teaching and an ability to work with diverse student populations. While research and publication are not required for the position, they are looked upon favorably by the College and are used in determining eligibility for a Certificate of Continuing Employment, which is available after five years of service.
A Ph.D. is required, ideally in the areas of Animal Behavior and/or Comparative Psychology. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching various courses in these areas, as well as experimental psychology and statistics. Also required are interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Three years of teaching experience is needed and ability to teach a variety of courses in psychology. Experience with student research and educational technology, as well as teaching in a college setting with diverse communities are preferred. Research knowledge is desired to assist with student placement in research externships.
COMPENSATION
Salary commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience ($56,821 - $98,309)
