POSITION OVERVIEW

The Mathematics & Computer Science Department of John Jay College of Criminal Justice invites applications for two full-time lecturer positions in Computer Science to begin spring semester 2022. The successful candidate will teach courses in the undergraduate Computer Science and Information Security major, particularly courses such as data structures and senior level capstone and security courses. Candidates should be willing to advise undergraduate students, develop curricula, assist with implementation of lab exercises, and serve as course coordinators. Candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to teaching and the ability to stay current in areas of computing that impact the program. Candidates with expertise in digital forensics, computer security or applications of data science in security are of particular interest.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

John Jay’s major in Computer Science and Information Security (CSIS) offers the computing, quantitative and analytical expertise that public and private organizations need to advance the practice of digital forensics and cybersecurity. The program provides the broad background in computing that is needed to thwart the abuse and misuse of computers, data networks, information systems and information infrastructures, in the environment of ever advancing digital technology. The courses in the CSIS major prepare students for direct entry into the profession as well as entry into graduate and professional programs that rely on computing and quantitative methods, especially in areas related to digital forensics and cybersecurity.

This position is part of John Jay’s participation in the City of New York’s CUNY 2x Tech program. CUNY 2x Tech is a $20M Mayoral initiative to double the number of tech bachelors awarded by public colleges by 2022. It entails a comprehensive investment in the instruction, advising, and experience that are essential to prepare New Yorkers for 21st-century tech jobs in NYC. All CUNY 2x Tech faculty and staff members will play a critical role in ensuring that the college’s tech education is aligned with industry demand. The role will involve work with NYC-based industry partners and the NYC Tech Talent Pipeline to review curricula, provide feedback on students’ job-readiness, teach in the classroom, and ensure that overall tech education provided by the college is preparing students with the academic and career readiness skills they need to succeed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates are expected to have an M.S. degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field at the time of appointment. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, willingness to participate in course and program development, and the ability to work well with others. The successful candidate must be eager and qualified to work with our diverse student body, and have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
