CUNY TV, the television station of The City University of New York, operates Broadcast Channel 25.3 in the region and cable channel 75 throughout the five boroughs. The stations are on-the-air 24 X 7 X 365 with programs that are rarely found in traditional television reporting.

Reporting to the Director of Production, the Managing Editor manages the post-production department by administering assignments to editors and following through on completion.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversees and manages the station's Intern Program.

  • Facilitates, administer and execute segments for broadcast.

  • Assists Director of Production in managing administrative functions, supporting the delivery of various programming, and ensure that schedules are met and guidelines are adhered to.

  • Provides feedback, coaching and, in conjunction with HR disciplinary action (when needed), helps to improve employee performance.

  • Assists Director of Production in supervising producers, associate producers, reporters, hosts, editors and production assistants.

  • Provides creative insights and guidance to the team.

  • Assists Director of Production in reviewing, approving content, and audition talent for multiple shows.

  • Assists Director of Production in providing technical direction on broadcast or audio production activities, as well as special projects or videos.

  • Assists the Director of Production in supervising and training staff in various production and programming operational areas.

  • Assists in the performance reviews of those under his/her direct supervision.

  • Maintains a code of ethics centering on public trust, truthfulness, fairness, integrity, independence, and accountability.


Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

  • Understanding and familiarity with various edit and graphics platforms.

  • Hands-on experience managing and assigning post production jobs.

  • Field/remote experience with crews, either as reporter or producer.

  • Ability to clearly communicate either verbally or online what the specific needs are for broadcast shoots and post production assignments.


Provides expertise in digital and visual communications to support and advance the College's multimedia presence.

  • Researches and identifies new multimedia platforms that advance College programs and initiatives

  • Works closely with management to understand and produce effective message elements

  • Creates and aligns various communication work products such as video, digital formats, layouts, graphics, web pages, and microsites to ensure consistency and effective messaging

  • Assesses, enhances and manages the user experience on digital platforms including social media

  • Collaborates with graphic designers, webmasters, and other information technology professionals to create comprehensive broadcast and multimedia communications

  • Procures required internal and external resources and services and manages their utilization

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
