We offer opportunity to those students who desire it and wish to strive for it. The BMCC CUNY Start/Math Start Program is located in downtown Manhattan at 70 Murray Street.

CUNY Start is an intensive program for incoming college students, both high school and HSE graduates, who need to increase their academic proficiency in reading, writing and mathematics prior to enrollment in college credit classes. CUNY Start is recognized for its carefully designed curriculum and pedagogy, ongoing professional development and a supportive approach to student development.

Math Start, based on the CUNY Start’s math curriculum and advisement model, is an intensive eight-week program for incoming CUNY students who want to increase their math proficiency before starting credit- bearing classes. Similar to CUNY Start, Math Start enrolls students who have been accepted to CUNY, but need to improve their math skills before they begin to earn college credits. BMCC piloted the program as Summer Start in Summer 2014 and has expanded each year. Math Start classes now run during the Fall and Spring semesters as well as in the Summer.

Reporting to the Campus Program Coordinator and Director, the Administrative Coordinator must be able to coordinate many different tasks in a fast paced, student centered environment, yet retain a professional approach to servicing the program. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Use of standard office software programs/applications in a proficient manner to register and track student enrollment.

  • Maintains data reports and issues reports as needed.

  • Act as a liaison to manage student’s payments with the Bursar.

  • Manage systems to conduct outreach and assist with trouble shooting any recruitment issues.

  • Handles all logistical tasks including brochures and flyers within and outside the college.

  • Actively participate in regular team meetings, including campus and University meetings as well as training activities.

  • Assist with recruitment information sessions.

  • May train and supervise part time office support staff.


Bachelor's Degree required.

Successful candidates will have the following professional and business core competencies:

  • Computer proficiency using standard office software programs/applications.

  • The individual must have a thorough knowledge of using BMCC’s CUNYFirst (Peoplesoft) system.

  • Collects data, prepares, and distributes reports and presentations using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

  • Strong work ethic, character and personal integrity, and ability to work with the utmost professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.

  • Detail oriented with strong organizational, writing, proofreading and editing skills with solid analytical, evaluative and research skills.

  • Ability to work well in a time-sensitive, dynamic, student centered and responsive office.

  • Ability to provide quality customer service while managing a high-volume of calls and walk-ins during peak times.

  • Ability to work with a diverse student body and sensitive information.

  • Experience working in collaborative settings.

  • The individual must be able to function with little supervision and be capable of solving daily administrative problems.


Supports projects, initiatives, and activities that impact an academic or administrative department.

  • Manages basic office functions such as communications, meeting schedules, work plans, staff assignments, and distributing information.

  • Collects data for, prepares, and distributes reports and presentations using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

  • Updates office databases, lists, and files to ensure completeness and accuracy; maintains current information on department web site(s); maintains department archives and collections.

  • Conducts internet and/or database research and performs basic systems queries to locate information related to department activities.

  • Maintains department fiscal plans and budgets; assists in budget administration and invoice processing.

  • Provides basic information, instructions, and materials as requested by students, faculty, and others who contact the department.

  • May supervise office staff and student workers.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
