The Department of Media Arts and Technology at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) invites applications for an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor position in media studies and digital media production starting Fall 2019.

The Media Arts and Technology Department is undergoing a process of growth and would like to attract new faculty that will share and contribute to this process. Our faculty teach, conduct research, complete creative projects and provide guidance in their areas of expertise. Overall, the MEA department covers a range of media production and media studies fields with three majors and many courses in areas such as animation, motion graphics, graphic design, web design, media studies, television, film and interactive applications.

The newly hired faculty is expected to primarily teach introductory media studies courses such as Introduction to Contemporary Media, Introduction to the Moving Image, and Script Writing, as well as one or more production courses.

Production expertise related to courses such as Sound for Digital Media, Motion Graphics, Introduction to Video Technology, Lighting, and/or Digital Cinematography is preferred. Additional production courses in the MEA Department are Remote Production/Video Editing and Studio TV Production.

Full-time faculty are expected to participate in college, department and professional activities. They will share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, grant writing, student advisement and other functions for the good of the institution. The ideal candidate will be able to contribute to curriculum development, advisement and teaching in our department.

The qualified candidate must be able to work in either the Day or Evening/Weekend program, as needed by the Department. Productive scholarship, publication and creative work are required for promotion and tenure.

QUALIFICATIONS

For Assistant Professor: Master’s or Ph.D. in a field related to media studies or media production. Three years or more college teaching experience preferred. The newly hired faculty is expected to teach introductory media studies courses and introductory media production courses and there is a preference for candidates who have experience teaching these courses at the college level. Additional professional production expertise related to one or more of the following topics is strongly preferred: sound for digital media, interactive media, or TV and film production is preferred.

Experience with teaching and learning technologies preferred. Experience teaching non-traditional, urban college students preferred.

For Associate or Full Professor, candidate must have a record of significant achievement in the field.
