Borough of Manhattan Community College of the City University of New York (CUNY) is accepting applications for a College Laboratory Technician position in the Department of Modern Languages (MLD).
The College Laboratory Technician's duties include but are not limited to the following duties:
The supervision of student groups assigned to the MLDLL for in-person and Zoom weekly laboratory sessions mainly for Chinese and Spanish learning, and a few other groups learning American Sign Language, Arabic, French and Italian to complete language lab assignments and recordings in their target language during weekly laboratory sessions.
Assist students during weekly assigned lab hours with conversational or grammar modules and recordings.
Create, maintain, update and copy conversational language modules for all languages and all levels of language courses in the MLDLL Blackboard Shell.
Conduct student orientations
Set up Zoom weekly recurring meetings.
Maintain Lab Tab with laboratory content on the Blackboard of assigned laboratory sessions.
Maintain participation reports for laboratory sessions.
Submit Lab participation- progress reports to professors for each section every 5th and 10th week and at the end of the semester.
Set up MLDLL to conduct semester assessments.
Check and conduct weekly updates on MLDLL student computers.
Set up and prepare laboratory and computers for new image and language software when necessary.
Use of computer for instructional support purposes. Evening/weekend schedule may be required, as well as flexible weekday hours.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Qualifications :
Fluency in Chinese and Spanish
Knowledge of Arabic or ASL or French or Italian,
Ability to communicate in English and to work well with other technicians, professors, and students,
Knowledge of Blackboard or comparable course management system,
Experience with online teaching, and video conferencing platforms, e.g., Zoom, Blackboard Collaborate, etc.,
Advanced computer skills for the MLD language lab, a place which supports instruction.

$ 54,222 - $59,378
