GENERAL DUTIES
I.T. Assistants perform entry-level professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Assistants work in areas such as development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar based on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include resolving minor technology problems, monitoring activities, and maintaining documentation. They have latitude for independent initiative and judgment, under supervision.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Labor Studies and Urban and Community Studies that are designed to meet the needs of working adults as well as traditional-age college students who seek to learn more about the challenges confronting poor and working-class populations in the workplace and in the community. Additionally, SLU collaborates with other units of CUNY to offer a broad range of college-credit programs designed to give workers the academic and technical skills needed for professional advancement. Its faculty includes distinguished scholars in the social sciences as well as expert practitioners in government, labor, and public service.
The Office of Planning, Effectiveness, Research and Assessment seeks applications for an hourly Data Specialist and Web Programmer, reporting directly to the Director of Academic Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness or designee. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
Develop and execute optimized queries against an MS SQL Server environment to support applications and the data analysis/business intelligence/Reporting initiative
Document and evaluate current database structures for optimization
Develop new responsive web applications usting HTML 5, javascript, CSS and other modern technologies
Support the development of database front-end tools using Microsoft Access or similar platforms
Participate in technology project teams
Support optimal operations of OPERA's data collection and reporting operations through timely problem resolution, escalation and follow-up with end users
Assist with the management of the Web Content Management Systems
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
A minimum of six months of full-time experience in a computer or technology-related position. Experience that is more than 20 hours per week and less than 35 hours per week may be counted at 50% of the requirement (i.e., two months of part time experience equal to one month full time experience)
Additional experience and/or education that can be met by ONE of the following: An additional three years and six months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; an Associate's degree plus 18 months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Demonstrated English Language proficiency
A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
This title has three levels. To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Two years' experience with SMS SQL Server administration (SQL 2008 and above), querying, store procedures, ETL, security and optimization
Two years' experience with MS SQL Reporting and Analysis services on Microsoft Windows Server
Two years' of .NET and/or Java based web application development. Must know HTML, CSS, JS, jQuery, connecting to various authentication sources (e.g. Active Directory) and smtp services
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally in a high demand environment
Experience with PowerBI/Tableau reporting and data visualization systems, R Programming, Code Repository Platforms (e.g. GitHub), Data warehouse/cubes/marts.
COMPENSATION
This is a Part-Time position for up to 25 hours per week
New Hire: $30.56/hour*
Incumbent: $34.53/hour
*This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment only.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.
If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.
Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
